On this day in years gone by, Leeds have
met the black and white side of Hull twice
and taken on St Helens for a place in the
Challenge Cup Final.
1995
LEEDS 44 HULL 19
Leeds comfortably beat Hull to record
their fourth consecutive win in a row in
1995. Back rower Adrian Morley made his
debut for the club, but it was Jim Fallon
who stole the headlines with a three-try
performance. Francis Cummins added
two and Neil Harmon, Craig Innes, Kevin
Iro and Garry Schofield all notched up a
try each in front of a 11,204 crowd.
2002

Leeds bowed out of the 2002 Challenge
Cup against a red hot St Helens side. The
Red Vee raced into a 26-6 lead in the first
half, with Mark Calderwood providing
Leeds’ sole reply. There was a chance for
the Rhinos to cut the deficit, but Marcus
St Hilaire was pushed over the sidelines
as he was poised to score a minute
before the break. Ben Walker and Willie
Poching got two tries back for the Rhinos
late on, but it was Saints that set up a
meeting with Wigan in the final.
2017

In 2017, Leeds travelled
to Hull FC for a Good
Friday clash and the
Rhinos won a highscoring
affair, thanks
to two first half tries
from Joel Moon. Danny
McGuire, Ryan Hall
and Matt Parcell also
added to the Rhinos’ score
as the visitors took a 30-12
lead into the break, and
even though Hull’s Jamie
Shaul and Mark Minichiello
scored either side of Danny
McGuire’s yellow card,
Brian McDermott’s side
made sure they completed
the win.

LEEDS RHINOS 20 HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS 20
Despite two periods of golden point extra
time, nothing could split Leeds Rhinos
and Huddersfield Giants at Headingley
Stadium as the two sides shared the
league points in a 20-20 draw. Liam
Sutcliffe, Rhyse Martin and Morgan
Gannon were the try scorers on that day,
but a late comeback from the Giants
made sure the sides took a point each.
