He recently held the role of director of
to implement council’s direction and
initiatives as well as all administrative and
previous CAO was dismissed.
YRP stands strong
against discrimination
York Regional Police, in partnership
with the community, hosted its community
commemoration of the International Day
for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
on April 1.
“York Regional Police is proud to be
able to host this special cultural event in
person once again,” said Chief Jim Mac-
Sween. The event theme this year was
Celebrating the Strength of our Diversity.
This year’s free event that took place
at Crystal Fountain Event Venue featured
community booths, diverse musical and
artistic performances and guest speakers.
The day was an opportunity for mem-
bers of the community and community partners
to join in a celebration of our diversity
and to collectively reaffirm our commitment
to the eradication of prejudice and all forms
of discrimination.
In 1966, the United Nations declared
March 21 as the International Day for the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The declaration was intended to increase
awareness around the issues of racism and
discrimination. Canada became one of the
first countries to formally recognize the
declaration when it proclaimed the day in
1989.
