ARTHROSCOPY TECHNIQUES IN SMALL ANIMAL
PRACTICE
CLINICAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS
ISVPS Foundation Certificate (FCert)
ISVPS Foundation Certificate (FCert)
This Focus 20 programme in Arthroscopy will appeal
to those small animal vets interested in developing
their endoscopic skills to diagnose and treat joint
diseases.
You will cover instrumentation for arthroscopy in
small animal practice, identify normal arthroscopic
anatomy, and diseases that can be diagnosed and
managed with arthroscopy of the forelimb and
hindlimb. This arthroscopy programme will also help
you to improve patient assessment together with
any anaesthesia and analgesia considerations.
The programme will be delivered in our brandnew
state-of-the-art training facilities in Frankfurt,
Germany, as a highly practical course based
primarily in the wet lab with supporting lectures and
group discussions.
Before attending the programme, you will receive
an online module comprising an introduction to
arthroscopy. Then you’ll be able to use the latest
equipment in the wet-lab facility to test your skills
so you can feel confident in your clinical work.
Additional learning resources:
• A copy of the book written by the Course Director Tim
McCarthy DVM PhD DACVS - ‘Veterinary Endoscopy for
the Small Animal Practitioner’ - a valuable reference
tool post course
• RCVS Knowledge Library Access
• Improve Veterinary Practice Membership for one year
This Focus 20 programme will help you to develop
your clinical communication skills, promote better
patient health and increase profitability as a result
of the positive application of clinical communication
skills. You will develop the skills required to explore
and discover what a client is thinking and provide
the tools to address particularly challenging
situations.
In addition, you will hear from a simulated client
their viewpoint on the consultation process. There
will also be a practical face to face element where
you will get to practise the communication skills
you’ve been learning and an online experiential
learning session where you’ll be able to work in
small groups on selected scenarios or challenging
situations.
Understanding your client can be as tricky as
making sure they understand you. Good clinical
communication skills are the key to unlocking that
rapport and relationship to ensure the best care
for the patient. This programme explores the skills
involved in achieving those outcomes using taught
resources and practical applications with the client
experience at the heart of your learning.
