The overall strategic and policy direction for YMAC isdetermined by its Board of Directors who meet at leastevery four months. The Board also acts as an advocacygroup for Traditional Owners in the Yamatji and Marlparegions, particularly in relation to government policiesand development activities affecting Country.The Board is accountable to thecorporation’s members and ultimatelyresponsible for the performance ofYMAC’s statutory functions. The Board iscomprised of members from YMAC’s twocommittees – the Yamatji RegionalCommittee and Pilbara RegionalCommittee. The committees are electedto represent their respective region. Sixmembers from each committee join toform the 12-member Board of Directors,providing equal representation for boththe Yamatji and Pilbara regions.This year, the Board came together fivetimes, including one meeting at RottnestIsland and one in Karratha. Our Co-Chairpersons met regularly with theChief Executive Officer (CEO),particularly as COVID-19 continued toimpact our service areas.Policy direction for YMAC on mattersspecific to either the Yamatji or Pilbararegion are provided by the respectiveregional committee. Four regionalcommittee meetings were held in2021-2022 in August, October, Februaryand May.Strategy and policy directions areimplemented through the day-to-daywork of YMAC’s staff, under the directionof the CEO. The organisation employsmore than 100 professionals from adiverse range of disciplines includinglaw, anthropology, heritage, archaeology,governance, community liaison,executive/corporate, land and seamanagement, and financial andadministrative services. Staff regularlytravel between our four offices in Perth,Geraldton, Hedland and Broome todeliver services. Another office isscheduled to open in Carnarvon inthe second half of 2022.Regular reporting by YMAC’s CEO andthe Executive Management Team tothe Board, regional committees,stakeholders, management and fundersensures YMAC’s strategic directionis maintained – and that risks areidentified and managed appropriately.In December 2020, theYMAC Board finalisedand endorsed the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan.The plan covers fourstrategic priority areasand associated initiativesto achieve success:1. Deliver on our responsibilities to TraditionalOwners, Common Law Holders and Country.2. Build on a tradition of operational excellence.3. Foster a culture of connection across andbeyond YMAC.4.
