Art Life
Art Life
Colour your world with ACOP art
The Tramshed Arts and Community Centre at Narrabeen
will come alive with art and craft from 14-16
July, with an exhibition and sale by the talented Artists
and Craftsmen of
Pittwater.
The Lakeview
Room behind the café
will be transformed
into a fabulous gallery
bursting with
colour – you can
brighten up your Winter
with watercolours,
acrylics, oils, toys,
clothing, homewares
and more.
ACOP says the
exhibition will provide an opportunity to buy a beautiful
and unique original piece for your home or Airbnb property
or find the perfect gifts for your friends and family.
Whether your taste is traditional or abstract, ACOP
members are showcasing and selling items to love and
treasure.
ACOP artisans, who live across the Northern Beaches
and Pittwater, are passionate about what they do – so
spread the word to your friends and family and share that
passion at their July exhibition and sale.
– NW
Make an artistic connection
Enviro Art & Design Prize
Thought-provoking works by
215 artists and designers
have been shortlisted for the
Northern Beaches Environmental
Art & Design Prize.
Fresh perspectives on our
global climate crisis and sustainable
life on earth will be on
show at Manly Art Gallery & Museum,
Curl Curl Creative Space
and Mona Vale Creative Space
Gallery from 4 – 27 August.
The works cover contemporary
practices, from fashion
and design to ceramics and
Ask anybody
about a
favourite possession
and you are
bound to get a
story.
“This is
particularly true
when that object
is handmade,
and already
instilled with all
of the makers’
stories and experiences,”
says
Pittwater Artists Trail member Susan
Peacock from metal workshop
Silver Plus Studio at Ingleside.
“When you are able to meet the
maker personally, see their workspace,
and hear their motivations
for making their art, you have
begun a journey,” Susan said.
“But what becomes the more
overriding story for that object
is the one you attach to it going
forward.”
Susan observes that spending a
day travelling the Pittwater Artists
Trail creates a story in itself, as
‘trailers’ find themselves perhaps
visiting an area they had not previously
known.
“Whether you
manage to visit
the whole trail,
or choose to
highlight your
time with just a
few artists is up
to you.
“Having met
an artist, heard
their story and
then felt motivated
to make
a purchase you
enter the narrative of that object
and the story becomes something
far richer.
“You may have bought the piece to
remind you of a place or a feeling;
or perhaps you wish to mark a time
or event in your life. Whatever it is,
the relationship between the possessions
we value and the narrative
behind them is unmistakeable.”
– Nigel Wall
*You can start your new narrative
on the Pittwater Artists Trail
Saturday 22nd July and Sunday
23rd, 10am – 4pm. More info
and trail maps can be found at
small sculpture, painting,
photography, film and video,
interdisciplinary collaboration,
and functional and wearable
design.
Among those shortlisted is
Perdita Phillips (WA) whose film
‘Wheatbelt Anticipatory Archive
II’ was developed from 500
historical aerial photographs of
farming properties merged and
overlaid with new images.
Prize winners will be announced
on 3 August. – NW
