Philomena Hail ARTIST STATEMENT Philomena Hali lived in Alice Springs for 31 years, teaching & working in various capacities in town and desert communities. She is primarily a textile artist/maker, however, is not that easy describing what she does as she has learned many things over the years. Stitching & embroidery were learned from a young age. As her family are from the island of Madeira, embroidery is a way of life there, so she was made to learn. However, her own work resembles nothing of their excellence. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Philomena Hali trained as a nurse and now works as an artist. She has had three solo exhibitions: Narratives of Cloth & Fibre (2015), Marriott Gallery, Central Craft, Alice Springs NT, Year of the Outback (2002) Rosny Park School House Gallery, Hobart, Tasmania, and Textile Retrospective, (2011) Shibori exhibition, Wollari School, Orange, NSW. Her group exhibitions include Korea Bojagi Forum (2023), Seoul, South Korea, Brooching the Subject, Timeless Textiles Gallery NSW (2023), Western Australian Fibre & Textile Assoc. (WAFTA) (2022), Small Works (2022) Brunswick St Gallery, VIC, Sustainable Couture,Fashion event, Alice Springs, NT (2021) and Brooching the Subject, Timeless Textiles Gallery NSW (2021)
