TML’S VISION FOR SUSTAINABLE
TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS
Tailormade Logistics wants to set the standard for sustainable transport and
logistics. Our vision goes beyond the mere reduction of CO 2
emissions per
kilometer driven. It is a holistic vision that encompasses all aspects of our
operations. By creating an international network of hubs, focusing on the shift
towards multimodal transportation, generating our own green energy, using
alternative fuels and drivetrains, relying on automation and reducing waste
streams while maximizing recycling and re-use, we aim to transform the entire
logistics chain.
An intermodal-connected network of hubs
We build a network of hubs, close to our customers and close to intermodal
connections. This reduces the number of first-mile kilometers needed to bring
the goods from the customer to us. From there, the goods enter our network
and can be transferred via intermodal to a TML hub near the destination.
Moving goods via barge or rail reduces CO 2
emissions by 90%. This makes
intermodal a very powerful tool in the sustainability toolbox.
Managing energy production and consumption
A logistic site requires a lot of energy to operate: heating/cooling, forklifts….
A logistic building also has a large footprint, literally. It takes up many square
meters. By installing solar panels on the roofs of our warehouses, we can
produce green energy and put this green energy to use. First of all, to operate
the site but the surplus energy can be used to charge electric vehicles.
Producing our own green electricity reduces our reliance on ‘brown energy’
and makes it possible to better manage and optimize our energy consumption.
Circular and Sustainable Supply Chain
We recognize the importance of efficient and sustainable supply chains.
We commit to reducing and reusing waste and promoting circularity by
implementing innovative solutions for responsible resource management.
Through collaboration with our customers and their suppliers across the
supply chain, we implement sustainable practices and contribute to a circular
economy.
Digitalization and automation
Few people associate the logistics sector with cutting edge IT developments.
Managing the complexities of an international logistics operation does require
robust, state-of-the-art IT systems. Warehouse Management, Transport
Management, Business Intelligence, Fleet Management, monitoring and
tracking, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Radio-frequency identification
(RFID) and semi-automated planning are all part of the IT landscape.
10

Through semi-automated planning software, it’s possible to optimize trips as
well as resource utilization. This cuts back on overall kms driven as well as suboptimal
utilization of our rolling stock.
Alternative fuels and drivetrains
Investments in intermodal transport, a network of hubs and the use of modern
planning software for optimization can reduce but never eliminate all road
transport.
To further reduce the emissions of those kms driven, we invest in a modern,
well-maintained fleet, with latest-generation, fuel-efficient trucks. We also offer
our customers the use of alternative, less-polluting fuels like Hydrotreated
Vegetable Oil, which reduces emissions by 90%.
We collaborate closely with our clients to implement sustainable practices
across their entire logistics chain. By fostering a culture of partnership, we
ensure that sustainable initiatives and the environmental benefits they generate,
extend beyond our own operations.
Finally, our own employees are key in making our ambitions a reality. We are
proud to continue to lead the way in sustainable transport and logistics, driving
our industry forward on a path towards a more sustainable future. We hope
that our vision for sustainable transport and logistics sets a high standard,
inspiring others to follow suit and collectively work towards a greener, more
sustainable world.
We also keep an eye on the various alternative drivetrains under development.
Fuel agnostic engines, electric engines, hydrogen powered vehicles. These
technologies are evolving and might soon help us to reduce the environmental
impact of traditional road transport.
OUR PRIORITIES
At Tailormade Logistics, we are fully conscious of our position
within the economic fabric of society. Our position between
suppliers, producers and consumers comes with great
opportunities and with the potential to have an impact.
In 2020, an analysis was performed and themes and issues
were identified and prioritized to meet our goals. From this
analysis, following subjects were identified as priority for the
coming years, which remain unchanged:
Reduce transport-related CO 2
emissions
Innovate through automation and the use of smart tools
Develop our talent
OUR AMBITIONS
PRODUCT
Our product is not a physical product. It’s the service we offer to our customers. By
partnering with Tailormade Logistics, our customers can meet their transport and logistic
needs in the most sustainable way possible. Each customer is different, so we offer each
customer a tailormade solution.
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO):
A synthetic fuel produced from food industry residual stream with 90% less greenhouse gas emissions.
Intermodal transport:
The optimal mode of transport is not always a truck. Shifting goods from road transport to cleaner long-distance
alternatives like rail and short sea shipping can significantly reduce the environmental footprint of our customers’ logistic
activities.
Reverse logistics:
Together with our customers, we look for opportunities to transform waste flows into reusable materials flows.
Regional hubs:
Close to the customers.
OPTIMIZE INTERNAL PROCESSES
We embrace the power of digitalization and automation to enhance efficiency
and productivity. By leveraging data analytics, smart tools and automation
in our internal processes, we can optimize resource utilization, track energy
consumption, reduce ecological footprints and foster data sharing across our
organization.
OUR AMBITIONS
PLANET
Sustainability is the center of attention whenever we take to the roads. Because when it
comes to planets… we don’t have a next one.
With this in mind, we aim to reduce the impact our activities have on our planet. By its
nature, our core business, warehousing and transportation, is inherently polluting.
We want to first reduce the CO 2
footprint of these core activities, and ultimately,
eliminate it all together. Although their day-to-day activities are less polluting, our
supporting departments can also contribute to a cleaner environment. Here the focus is
on reducing our water footprint.
On top of these efforts to reduce our own impact on our planet, we work together with
our customers to reduce, reuse and recycle their waste through reverse logistics.
21

REDUCE THE (NET) ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF
WAREHOUSING AND OFFICE ACTIVITIES
By producing and making use of green energy, we aim to reach zero emissions
for our energy needs by 2030.
Through automation we aim to make our processes, warehousing and
transport activities more efficient and reduce CO 2
emissions.
Our company car fleet is being rapidly electrified. We skip the stop-gap
solution of hybrid powertrains and are committed to purchasing 100% electric
vehicles for our company car fleet.
120 charge points are available at our sites for these EVs.
2021 2022 WHAT’S NEXT?
4 000 kWp solar electricity
100% LED lights
6 700 kWp solar electricity
Reduce energy consumption of internal
logistic activities by intelligent handling,
automatization and optimization (15%
reduction by 2023).
CONSUMPTION
NET-0 BY 2030
22

REDUCE THE WATER FOOT-
PRINT OF OUR SUPPORTING
ACTIVITIES
All sanitairy water in our office building is purified with a biofilter. This equals
approx. 4 m 3 of water each day.
A well-maintained fleet runs more efficiently, with less downtime. At Ghent
Trailer Care, our rolling stock is kept in top shape. The adjacent truck wash
facility required 1 000 lt of water to wash a truck & trailer combination.
We recuperate 60% of the water, supplementing the rest with rainwater. As
a result, we can limit the amount of drinking water used by the truck wash
facility to just 80 lt per wash cycle.
With an average of 15 trucks washed per day, this results in an annual water
saving of approx. 3 500 000 lt per year.
23

WASTE: REDUCE, REUSE,
RECYCLE
Through reverse logistics, nearly 24 million pieces of packaging materials
were refurbished and reintegrated into our automotive customers’ supply
chains in 2022.
This included plastic containers, textile inserts, polystyrene foam inserts, lids,
metal racks and wooden pallets. Through this approach, we directly reduced
waste generation and minimized the consumption of primary resources.
We ensure the optimal performance and enhance the lifespan of our rolling
stock through regular maintenance and repairs by our maintenance and
repair workshop. This achieves:
f Reduced fuel consumption from proper functioning material
f Minimal maintenance kilometers
f Extending the life span of our platforms by minimizing the marginal
cost for repairs
24

TURNING CARDBOARD WASTE INTO A RESOURCE
In 2022, Tailormade Logistics installed a baler at our Skaldenstraat site in Ghent.
Cardboard gathered at the site through our reverse logistics processes was
previously handled using a cardboard press. The press helps maximize the
amount of cardboard in each container. Full containers were sent to a recycling
facility. The recycling facility transforms the cardboard into large bales, which are
sold to paper plants as a resource.
By installing a baler on-site, we were able to shorten the process, which
f Cuts back on the amount of transport and the associated CO 2
emissions
f No more transport from our site to the recycler
f No more transport from the recycler to the cardboard
manufacturer
f Larger volumes of cardboard per transport
f Transforms ‘waste’ into a resource
f On a monthly basis, 200 tons of cardboard is collected, sorted, baled
and transported to nearby paper plants to bring back into circulation.
25

26

OUR AMBITIONS
PEOPLE
Tailormade Logistics achieves Pioneering Employer status (certificate
2023)
In 2022, we signed up for the Pioneering Employer 2023 certification process.
Pioneers De Lijn, Jobat and Antwerp Management School founded the
Pioneering Employer label in 2020. Their intention? Putting the employee at the
center. A Pioneering Employer is resolutely committed to a sustainable mobility
policy and a people-oriented personnel policy. All this is based on 3 pillars: less
travel, people-oriented hybrid working, smarter and greener travel.
Less, faster, greener travel
How does TML put this into practice?
Losing precious time by spending hours in traffic jams? We put an end to that.
We have an extensive network of sites in Belgium and abroad. This way, we
encourage remote collaboration. By avoiding unnecessary trips, we travel less,
smarter and greener.
27

People-oriented hybrid working
We think it’s important to keep careers moving. We encourage our employees
to broaden their horizons by acquiring new knowledge and learning new
skills. This way, we try to achieve continuous personal growth. We do this
through both internal and external training. We give people the opportunity
for job-rotation to experience a different function, department, project or
site. Every employee is an essential link in the TML story. Talents are
discovered, expertise is exchanged. We inspire, stimulate and encourage.
More than 20 nationalities employed
The logistics sector is very diverse and this is no different at TML. With more
than 20 nationalities, inclusion is in the DNA of our organization. This comes
with some challenges but at the same time, it ensures drive and resilience.
We look beyond age, language, ethnicity and degree. Motivation, enthusiasm,
curiosity and the right values and norms are decisive. In addition, integrity and
respect for people, materials and the environment are paramount.
Once they join the logistics sector, people often get the logistics bug. The
innovation and possibilities of our sector are often underestimated and
worth highlighting. Both dyed-in-the-wool logistics experts and passionate
newcomers to the sector find their second home at TML. People passionate
about logistics, who take initiative and think in terms of solutions. Because
after all, enthusiasm creates passion.
28

Candidates consciously choose TML
A company that pursues a sustainable HR policy is quickly noticed. Despite
the current labor market, we can fill our vacancies, precisely because we focus
on the person. Our applicants come in through various channels. We focus
on students, recent graduates, non-native speakers but also people who want
to relocate to Belgium, who are reorienting themselves professionally or who
are highly experienced in our field, can connect. The commitment we express
to follow a sustainable path together, in which evolution and innovation are
central, makes the difference.
Our goal? Regardless of the label we acquire, we strive to be an employer
that makes people feel at home and can develop themselves. A place where
they arrive brimming with energy but also finish the working day with at least
as much energy.
In the coming years we will maintain our focus on personal development
opportunities. We are working on personal growth plans and continue to
evaluate our organization on a continuous basis. We regularly and critically
question roles, tasks, expertise, responsibilities and lines of communication.
Within our organization, this happens constantly in two directions and we
can only applaud that. It is precisely this passion that ensures that not only our
employees grow, but also our organization is taken to the next level.
29
