Center for the Arts has enriched 

the lives of residents and visitors 

throughout California’s capital 

region by providing state-of-the-art 

venues and engaging opportunities 

to experience artistic work, celebrate 

cultural traditions, and participate in 

the creative process.

Harris Center offers an evolving

Falcon’s Eye Theatre presents Puffs 

Cinema at Folsom Lake College. Since 

producing its first season of plays 

in 2007, the company has become 

known regionally for its creative and 

provocative takes on theatre classics. 

Students and community members are 

encouraged to audition and serve as onstage 

or technical talent. This season, 

Falcon’s Eye will present adaptations 

of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under 

the Seas in the fall and the Broadway hit 

Cabaret in the spring.

Folsom Lake College (FLC) is proud to be 

home to the Harris Center for the Arts. 

This unique partnership fusing education 

with the arts allows students in FLC’s 

instructional programs to train with 

acclaimed international and local artists in 

a state-of-the-art facility. 

Simply put, the visual and performing 

arts at Folsom Lake College are 

thriving! Students have an array of 

academic programs and classes to 

choose from, along with professional 

learning opportunities in art, dance,

music, and theatre. Our talented faculty 

– many of whom are working artists 

in their own right – are committed to 

providing students and the surrounding 

communities with engaging performances 

and exhibitions throughout the year. 

Some opportunities for Folsom Lake 

College students to participate at the 

Harris Center for the Arts include: 

Falcon’s Eye Theatre 

Falcon’s Eye Theatre is the production 

arm of the Department of Theatre and 

MOSAIC Dance Company 

Folsom Lake College’s MOSAIC Dance 

Company performs a variety of dance 

styles including ballet, jazz, tap, hiphop, 

contemporary, musical theatre, and 

modern dance. The name derives from 

the group representation of a “mosaic” 

of diverse people, with different bodies, 

colors, shapes and sizes, ethnicities, 

religious affiliations, and ideological 

positionings – a MOSAIC not just of 

dance, but of life! Each semester is 

capped off with its signature Evening of 

Dance performance. 

Music Ensembles 

Folsom Lake College students can 

pursue creative musical studies and 

develop performance skills by joining 

choral groups with songbooks spanning 

genres and instrumental ensembles 

ranging from World Music to traditional 

orchestras. Concerts, recitals, and 

performances are presented throughout 

the year showcasing rising student talent. 

Art Exhibitions 

Folsom Lake College’s visual arts students 

are instructed in a wide range of styles, 

techniques, and approaches, and a diverse 

mix of media from drawing and painting 

to printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, 

photography, and digital arts. Each spring, 

students have the opportunity to have 

their artwork on public display as part of 

the Annual Student Art Show held in the 

Harris Center’s Bank of America Gallery.

Spotlight on College Faculty & Local Artists 

The Bank of America Gallery, run by 

the Folsom Lake College (FLC) Visual 

Arts Department, exhibits six shows 

annually, including works of art by 

Folsom Lake College faculty and 

students, and local, regional, national, 

and international artists. The gallery is 

located immediately to the left inside 

the front entrance of the Harris Center. 

Admission to the Bank of America 

Gallery is free. Gallery hours are 

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 

from 12:00 to 4:00 pm during the fall 

and spring semesters, as well as one 

hour before, and during intermission 

of performances in Stage One at the 

Harris Center, or by appointment by

visual arts by providing social settings,

It is my privilege to serve as President of the Los Rios 

Colleges Foundation. We are the philanthropic arm of 

the Los Rios Community College District, and we work 

with individuals, corporations and community partners 

who wish to support our students, colleges and the 

Harris Center of the Arts through their generous giving. 

Here at the Harris Center, our donors are at the heart of 

everything we do. You help ensure the future of quality 

arts programming and provide resources critical to our 

operations through Annual Membership and enhance 

the vitality of our community by making the arts 

accessible to all through the Arts Opportunity Fund. 

The Arts Opportunity Fund provides grants to local 

emerging and nonprofit arts organizations who call 

the Harris Center home. Through our partnership 

with the City of Folsom’s Arts Endowment, we look 

forward to providing grants to nonprofit organizations 

and emerging artists early next year to help offset the 

cost of performing at the Harris Center for the Arts. 

We also support ClassACTS!, our school matinee 

program for low-income elementary schools, through 

the Arts Opportunity Fund. We are excited to announce 

the re-launch of the Robert S. and Star Pepper 

Foundation ClassACTS! program this season with Beauty 

and the Beast and Cinderella. Over 2,400 elementary 

school children will get to see the magic of theater, 

many for the first time in their lives. It is only through 

the generosity of Robert and Starr Pepper, and donors 

like you, that we can help offset the cost of tickets and 

transportation so we can offer this program for free.

Keb’ Mo’ with Scott Mulvahill

BIO With five Grammy Awards, 14 Blues Foundation 

Awards, and a groundbreaking career spanning 

nearly 50 years under his belt, Keb’ Mo’s got nothing left to 

prove. Just don’t tell him that. 

“I may be turning 70,” Keb’ reflects, “but I’m still breathing 

and I’m still hungry. I’m still out there going for it every 

single day.” 

Keb’ began his remarkable journey at the age of 21, when 

he landed his first major gig playing with Jefferson Airplane 

violinist Papa John Creach. For the next 20 years, Keb’ 

would work primarily behind the scenes, establishing 

himself as a respected guitarist, songwriter, and arranger 

with a unique gift for linking the past and present in his 

evocative playing and singing. Though he recorded a one-off 

album in 1980 under his birth name, Kevin Moore, it wasn’t 

until 1994 that he would introduce the world to Keb’ Mo’ 

with the release of his widely acclaimed self-titled debut. 

And two years later, he garnered his first Grammy Award for 

Best Contemporary Blues Album with Just Like You. In the 

decades to come, Keb’ would take home four more Grammy 

Awards, top the Billboard Blues Chart seven times, and 

perform everywhere from Carnegie Hall to The White House. 

Bringing it all back home, Keb’ looked to his own story for 

inspiration on his captivating new album, Good To Be. Drawing 

on country, folk, blues, and soul, the collection transcends 

genre and geography, weaving together a joyful, heartwarming, 

and relentlessly optimistic tapestry that manages to 

encompass the entirety of this once-in-a-generation artist’s 

larger-than-life career. 

Scott Mulvahill 

Frontman. Singer-songwriter. World-renowned upright bassist. 

Multi-instrumentalist. Scott Mulvahill is leaving his unique 

mark on the intersecting worlds of Americana, bluegrass, folk, 

jazz, rock & roll, and roots music. Raised in Houston, Mulvahill 

cut his teeth as a member of Ricky Skaggs’ acclaimed band, 

Kentucky Thunder, touring internationally for five years. 

Along the way, he also composed music of his own, shining 

a light on the genre-jumping influences — Paul Simon’s 

sophisticated pop, James Taylor’s folk, Jaco Pastorius’ 

innovative jazz, and more — that would eventually inspire the 

material on his 2018 solo debut, Himalayas. 

A true “musician’s musician,” Mulvahill fills his performances 

with complex finger work and innovative progressions.

About Mariachi Herencia de México 

The historic tradition of mariachi 

music has its roots of origin in cities 

such as Guadalajara and Mexico 

City. As the ever-evolving genre's 

influence spread, it reached Chicago 

and birthed the Mariachi Herencia de 

México. The energetic, virtuosic Latin 

Grammy-nominated group has issued 

chart-topping albums and performed 

across the North American continent. 

Nuestra Herencia, their 2017 debut 

album, topped the Latin streaming 

charts. 2018's Herencia de la Tierra Mía 

was produced by celebrated industry 

veteran Javier Limón and charted 

atop all major streaming services. 

2019's Esencia topped industry charts,

BIO Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums 

Live takes the greatest albums and recreates them 

live on stage - note for note, cut for cut, using the best 

musicians. This special concert event will feature the 

Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers album, including “Brown 

Sugar,” “Wild Horses,” “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking,” and 

more. 

“Think of it as a recital,” says Martin. “These albums are 

historic and stand the test of time.” Forgoing costumes and 

impersonations, Classic Albums Live has found success in 

concentrating solely on the music. “We don’t dress up or 

wear any sort of costume. All of our energy is put into the 

music. We want the performance to sound exactly like the 

album,” says Martin. 

With 100+ shows a year across North America, Classic 

Albums Live has seen massive success in performing arts 

centers and theatres. Fans in Texas, Florida, California, 

New York, and central and east coast Canada have all 

continued to support the series and make it a sustaining, 

successful show. 

“We grew while others withdrew,” says Martin, commenting 

on the decline of concert ticket sales. “We created 

something that endures and connects. These albums are

overcoming adversity to his storied 

career in television and 

entertainment, groups of all ages can 

learn from Henry's speeches. His 

passion for supporting others is the 

result of a lifetime struggle with 

undiagnosed dyslexia. Henry has 

worked tirelessly to bring awareness 

and support to children who learn 

differently by advocating for changes 

in the education system and 

informing parents and teachers 

about learning challenges. 

Henry Winkler will celebrate 50 years 

of success in Hollywood this year and 

continues to be in demand not only 

as an actor, producer, and director 

but as a best-selling children’s book 

author. His autobiography, BEING 

HENRY...The Fonz and Beyond, will be 

published on October 31 of this year. 

A 1973 audition in Los Angeles 

forever changed the life of the Yale 

School of Drama graduate when 

producer Garry Marshall and Tom 

Miller cast Winkler in the iconic role 

of Arthur Fonzarelli, aka “The Fonz,” 

in the TV series Happy Days. During 

his 10 years on the popular sitcom, 

he won two Golden Globe Awards, 

was nominated three times for an 

Emmy Award and was also honored 

with a star on the Hollywood Walk 

of Fame. Both his famous leather 

jacket and Fonzie’s lunch box became 

part of an exhibit at the Smithsonian 

Museum in 1980. 

Winkler can add to his resume the 

title of New York Times best-selling 

author. His first book, Niagara Falls 

or Does It? Hank Zipzer the World’s 

Greatest Under-Achiever, became a 

New York Times bestseller. The book 

was inspired by Winkler’s struggle 

throughout his education due to his 

learning challenges and became so 

popular, it grew into a series of 28 

novels. All the books are available 

in bookstores and online across 

the United States and have been 

published around the world in nine 

languages, with more than 5 million 

copies sold. 

To date, he and his co-author, Lin 

Oliver, have written 39 children’s 

novels. Alien Superstar, a trilogy, 

became an instant New York Times 

best seller. Their newest book, 

Detective Duck, will be published in 

October of this year. 

Of all the titles he has received, the 

ones he relishes most are husband, 

father, and grandfather. Winkler 

and his wife, Stacey, have three 

children, Jed, Zoe, and Max, and six 

grandchildren. 


TISRA 

Zakir Hussain, Sabir Khan, and Debopriya Chatterjee 

Wednesday, April 24, 2024; 7:30pm 

BIO Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain is proud to present TISRA 

(three) with two of India’s finest young musicians, 

Sabir Khan and Debopriya Chatterjee. This unique trio is 

comprised of tabla, sarangi, and bansuri (bamboo flute), a 

combination not often heard on the classical stage. Sarangi 

and bansuri each have roots in ancient India and its mythology; 

both are also folk instruments. 

TISRA showcases the rich folk and classical traditions of the 

Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab. It is 

widely accepted that the musical influence of Rajasthani gypsies 

has been heard far beyond the borders of India, and that Uttar 

Pradesh incorporated the folk music forms of Nepal, Bhutan, 

and Tibet into its music. This colorful mix combined with Indian 

classical music and the rich rhythm repertoire of Punjab 

makes for a compelling offering that TISRA brings to audiences 

in the United States. Moreover, the trio intends to initiate a 

conversation between the sarangi, with its close resemblance to 

the human voice, and the bansuri, a breath instrument. 

Zakir Hussain is the pre-eminent classical tabla virtuoso 

of our time and is appreciated as one of the world’s most 

esteemed and influential musicians, one whose mastery of his 

percussion instrument has taken it to a new level transcending 

cultures and national borders. Along with his legendary father 

and teacher, Ustad Allarakha, he has elevated the status of the 

tabla both in India and around the world. 

Sabir Khan is one of India’s most talented and sought-after 

musicians of the present day. His instrument is the sarangi, 

a bowed instrument said to possess the sound closest to the 

human voice. He is the son of the great sarangi player/vocalist 

Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan, their family belonging to 

the Sikar gharana (school) of music, which has given several 

stalwarts to Indian classical music, including his greatgrandfather 

Ustad Azim Khansahib, a court musician at Sikar 

in Rajasthan. 

Debopriya Chatterjee started her initial flute training under 

the guidance of the late Pandit Bholanath Prasanna Ji of 

Allahabad. Her quest to express the depth and richness of 

Hindustani classical music, and of her chosen instrument, the 

bansuri (bamboo flute), brought her to the feet of her guru, the 

great exponent of the Maihar Senia Gharana Padmavibhushan 

Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
