This will be the first ever WSL meeting between Bristol City and Leicester City. The Robins were replaced
in the top-flight by Leicester in 2021.
The last meeting between Bristol City and Leicester City in any competition was in the League Cup in
February 2021, a 1-0 victory for the Robins thanks to a Kiera Skeels goal.
Bristol City have lost their opening match of the season in five of their last seven WSL seasons (W1 D1),
with their one win in this time a 1-0 away victory at Brighton in 2018-19.
Leicester have lost their first WSL match in each of their two previous seasons in the competition, losing
2-1 in both seasons, against Aston Villa in 2021-22 and Tottenham in 2022-23.
Bristol City are looking to become only the third team to win their opening WSL game of the season as a
promoted club, along with Sunderland in 2015 and Liverpool last season. In their one opening day game
as a newly promoted side, the Robins lost 6-0 to Chelsea in 2017-18.
Since being promoted ahead of the 2021-22 season, Leicester City have lost more WSL games than any
other side (33) and no side have shipped more goals (101). Meanwhile, the Foxes have scored 15 fewer
WSL goals than any of the sides to have featured in each of the last two campaigns (29).
Bristol City have won just four of their last 39 Women’s Super League games (D9 L26) and won none of
their final seven games in the 2020-21 season before being relegated (D3 L4).
Leicester have lost 86% of their away matches in the Women’s Super League (19/22), the second-highest
percentage of any side to play in the competition, behind only Yeovil Town (91%). The Foxes did,
however, end last season with a 1-0 away win at Brighton and are looking for consecutive away WSL wins
for the first time.
Bristol City’s Abi Harrison had the most assists in the Women’s Championship last season (8), while no
player was involved in more goals than Harrison (15, 7 goals + 8 assists).
Leicester’s Willie Kirk lost his first two managerial WSL matches against Bristol City as Everton boss in
the 2018-19 season but has since won his last three against the Robins, including two 4-0 wins in the
2020-21 campaign.
