Scholarships<br />
Sport<br />
Our scholars perform to<br />
a high standard in one or<br />
more sports, represent<br />
the school in a range of<br />
competitive sports within<br />
the school programme and<br />
display an excellent standard<br />
of personal health and<br />
fitness. Sports scholars are<br />
expected to play for <strong>Embley</strong><br />
at weekends throughout the<br />
year when they are selected<br />
for a team.<br />
We award three levels<br />
of Sport scholarship –<br />
Gold, Silver and Bronze.<br />
Candidates should be able<br />
to demonstrate significant<br />
talent in their chosen sport<br />
or physical activity and will<br />
play at county level or be<br />
capable of achieving a similar<br />
standard.<br />
Candidates will be invited to<br />
attend an assessment where<br />
tasks will be set to assess<br />
agility, balance, coordination<br />
and speed in the following<br />
skill areas:<br />
• Invasion games (e.g.<br />
hockey, rugby, netball).<br />
• Target games (e.g. cricket<br />
or rounders).<br />
• Net wall games (e.g. tennis).<br />
• Sports specific fitness<br />
testing (e.g. athletics).<br />
A shortlist of candidates will<br />
then be invited to interview<br />
with our Director of Sport.<br />
Applying for a scholarship<br />
To support all scholarship<br />
applications, each candidate<br />
should complete and return<br />
a scholarship application<br />
form. Applications must<br />
also include a brief personal<br />
statement, written by the<br />
candidate, to explain why he/<br />
she should be considered for<br />
the scholarship.<br />
Scholarship assessments take<br />
place in the January before<br />
September entry. Please<br />
