Alumni Speaker Series This spring, the ECenter
hosted “A Taste of Entrepreneurship” alumni panel,
where top food and beverage industry entrepreneurs
Galen Hand ‘16, Co-Owner of NOCA Beverages,
Brett Wintersteen ’05, Co-Owner of Dos Mexican
Eats, and Penny Brewster owner of Ceres Bakery
shared their perspectives on ideas, innovation and
entrepreneurship within the hospitality industry.
The goal of this event was to encourage students
to gain perspective from real life entrepreneurs in
the industry and apply the lessons shared into their
academic and personal lives. Students were engaged
in the panel and left motivated to build on their own
ideas as current problem solvers in the world.

Speaker Series The ECenter hosted Eric Schultz,
entrepreneur and author of Innovation on Tap, as
part of our speaker lineup this spring.

Eric’s talk explored what it is to be an entrepreneur,
including how he defines the term and providing
historical examples, including Eli Whitney, Elizabeth
Arden and Brent Grinna.
Eric also posed some tough philosophical questions
to the students, such as: “Should an entrepreneur
ever lie? What’s the fundamental attribution bias?
Do you want to be rich, or do you want to be king/
queen?”
Eric left the audience with signed copies of his book
and three main takeaways: Don’t fall for the dominant
narrative. Success comes from a profitable, scalable
business model. Community is an entrepreneur’s
superpower.
