FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
FOR RECREATION AND CULTURE PROGRAMS
The City of Revelstoke Parks, Recreation & Culture Department believes that every child should have
the opportunity to enjoy and play sports. Research shows that participation in recreation improves
health, life skills, teamwork, socialization and goal setting in children and youth.. We want to make sure
you know about the opportunities available to ensure all children have access to recreation and cultural
activities...
JumpStart:
COR Recreation Passes:
The City of Revelstoke, through Council support,
offers free annual recreation passes and 50%
subsidy on certain recreation programs to low
Income residents. Look for the above heart
logo labelled on programs that qualify for this
assistance.
Please contact Community Connections to
determine your eligibility.
KidSport BC:
The KidSport concept was hatched in 1993 by
board and staff at Sport BC as a way to help
address the challenges faced by many families
when registering their children in organized sport.
Their mission is to remove financial barriers that
prevent children from playing organized sports!
Check online for more information and how to
apply. www.kidsportcanada.ca/british-columbia/
apply-for-assistance/ or call: 604-333-3434
Jumpstart gives kids a sporting chance.
Participating in sport not only helps the
physical and social well-being, but helps build
self-esteem. By helping kids get into the game,
we are equipping them with determination.
This confidence goes beyond practices and
games. No kid should be left on the side lines
but in Canada 1 in 3 families cannot afford to
enroll their kids in organized sports. Jumpstart
is here to help. Families requiring assistance
need to fill out the application before the fees
are due, as money goes directly to the
organization. Applications can be submitted
from January 1 - November 1. Check online for
application forms and more information or call:
Preschool Swimming Lessons
The Lifesaving Society Swim for Life® program is a comprehensive swim lesson program that
focuses on the development of fundamental swim strokes and skills for learners of all ages and
abilities. Instructors ensure swimmers get lots of in-water practice in every lesson. Swim for Life
includes fun, hands on activities that focus on teaching Water Smart education for the whole
family. Lessons that will last a lifetime!
Parent & Tot Program Overview
Recommended age: 4 months to 3 years old. The Lifesaving Society Parent & Tot lessons structure
in-water interaction between parent and child to stress the importance of play in developing
water-positive attitudes and skills. Activities and progressions are based on child development allowing
parents to register in the level appropriate for their child’s age: 4-12 months, 12-24 months, or 2-3
years.
During this program, one parent or caregiver will be required to be
in the water with the tot (one-to-one ratio).
Parent & Tot 1 – Jellyfish (previously Starfish)
Recommended age: 4-12 months. Parent & Tot 1 provides an orientation to
water for infants and their parent/caregiver. Parents/caregivers will learn how to
swim safely with their infant in the pool through instruction of holds and
supports. Infants will be introduced to getting their face wet, blowing bubbles
and floating with the help of their caregiver.
Parent & Tot 2 – Goldfish (previously Duck)
Recommended age: 12-24 months. Parent & Tot 2 teaches toddlers how to play
in the water safely! They’ll learn how to enter and exit the water with help from
their parent/caregiver and will play games to encourage them to get their face
wet and blow bubbles in the water. Toddlers will also develop floating and kicking
skills with the support of their parent/caregiver.
Parent & Tot 3 – Seahorse (previously Sea Turtle)
Recommended age: 2-3 years. Parent & Tot 3 teaches toddlers how to safely
enter the water wearing a PFD. They’ll develop underwater skills such as
submersion and opening their eyes underwater. ‘Starfish’ floats, ‘pencil’ floats
and kicking skills are taught using songs and games.
Preschool Program Overview
Recommended age: 3 to 5 years. Give your child a head start on learning to swim! The Lifesaving Society
Preschool lessons develop an appreciation and healthy respect for the water before they get in too
in the water and have fun while developing a foundation of water skills. Water Smart education is included
in all Preschool levels.
During this program, one parent or caregiver will be required to be on deck (not in the water)
to assist with their child(ren) if necessary.
Preschool 1 – Octopus (previously Sea Otter)
preschooler to the care of the instructor. Preschoolers will have fun learning to get
in and out of the water. They’ll learn how to put their face in the water, blow bubbles
in the water, and how to float and glide.
Preschool 2 – Crab (previously Salamander)
with buoyant objects.
enter deep water safely wearing a PFD. They’ll learn how to submerge and exhale
underwater, retrieve objects underwater, and will continue developing their
floating, gliding and kicking skills.
Preschool 4 – Sea Lion (previously Crocodile)
Recommended: Completed Preschool 3. Preschool 4 teaches deep-water entries
and treading water wearing a PFD. Preschoolers will become skilled at retrieving objects
from the bottom of the pool in chest-deep water and performing front and
side glide. Front crawl wearing a PFD is also introduced.
AQUATIC CENTRE
