After terrible pandemic setbacks, we bounced back and then kept soaring. In our spotlight interview this month, the Global Wellness Institute’s Susie Ellis said, “Wellness is one of the great economic growth stories of the last few years. Our research shows that it has exploded from $3.7 trillion in 2015, to $4.9 trillion in 2019, to $5.6 trillion in 2022 – and we forecast it will hit $8.5 trillion in 2027. It has grown 12% annually since the pandemic year of 2020, as Covid is proving a crucial turning point, with wellness and prevention becoming far more important to consumers.” To say we’re going out of 2023 on a high note is an understatement. And we all can’t wait to see what 2024 will bring as hotels, resorts, and spas harness this interest to expand their wellness and activity offerings. In this issue of Spa Executive, we asked industry leaders to share what they are looking forward to next year. Their responses include the expanded use of technology and touchless experiences, a growing interest in biophilic design and sustainability, and a focus on mental wellness – and more. We also cover a range of other topics, including decluttering and revamping spa menus and ways to increase revenue as we all ramp it up for 2024.
