Cycle Daniel Gillies
Surprise
I am beginning with the surprise as I know a lot of you have been
waiting for it since 2016.
So as you have guessed, the surprise is … a new magazine is coming !
As L.ART en Loire, it will be a bilingual mag of artistic expression
(french and english), with various types of arts (poetry, short story,
essay, photography, painting, video).
It will be a shorter mag than the former one (30/50 pages maximum),
but I hope to publish it one per month (we can dream).
If you are an artist, you could submit your work in the same
conditions as L.ART en Loire.
A call for work will be publish as soon as I buy InDesign (probably
february/march).
If you don’t know the former magazine, you can read some of the
remaining issues here (4 L.ART en Loire & 1 Céréales & Tubercules) :
https://www.yumpu.com/user/l.artenloire
It’s the official account of L.ART en Loire.
You will discover the name of the new mag in the following weeks,
through a mixed piece of art, with a poem that will hide the name…
You could try to guess the new name…
The mag will be published on the yumpu page.

Cycle Daniel Gillies
My work on this cycle will fall within the same type of work I did
about Shia Labeouf, during the years 2014-2016, and which has
become my introduction of metamodernism in the
francophone/french area.
But it will be a little different, as Daniel Gillies doesn’t seem to place
his work under a cultural theory, and I will first study his work as an
actor (through two of his characters).
The work I will do will be part of both his cycle and the cycle
Resilience, whose first element is my analysis of the film “Zulu” from
Jérôme Salle “Zulu une histoire de résilience”. This analysis studied
the (failed or successful) resilience of the two main protagonists and
the question of the one of the South African society.
For the moment, I am translating the Zulu article in English (it was
written in French). The day I will publish it, it will mean the Daniel
Gillies cycle is initiated.
In that part I will study Elijah Mickaelson, the rest of the family and
their processes of resilience in the first article and Mandrake from
“Coming Home in the Dark” in the second article. The second is my
main target to be honest.
If I can, I would like to make a “travel story in the art of Daniel Gillies”,
as he seems to be a multidisciplinary artist. When I write that type of
article, I consider the artist as a foreign country I am visiting /
discovering (hence the notion of travel story) and wanting to share
with others as a sort of a tour guide in the art of an artist. During my
discovery I try to distinguish 2 or 3 main questions in the art and then
I work on them in the article. To understand more the purpose of that
type of article, I will translate in english “Récit de voyage dans l’art

métamoderniste de Shia Labeouf”, I wrote in 2014, and I will publish it
on the Yumpu page.
Moreover, I am very interested in Daniel Gillies new tv series “Sight
Unseen” because of its purpose. As you can have guessed, I am
passionate about resilience, trauma, etc.
I have decided to make two bonuses for this cycle. The first vocation
of the bonuses is to answer that question : in which role I would like
to watch the actor I am studying ?
After a time of reflexion, I write a novel, whose main character is the
role in question. I need to precise that it’s not fanfiction (I don’t work
that type of writings). They are true novels in themselves, and to be
honest, these novels could be totally independent of the actor in
question.
Furthermore, these novels are too part of my own artistic work, so
they are under my artistic questionings, which main one is : which is
the place of the human/human being in our modern society ?
In the end, the role created through the novel can be sometimes
surprising.
In an extension of the Daniel Gillies Cycle, I will continue the
Resilience cycle by working on the two villains of the film “Crimson
Peak”, and the main characters of “We need to talk about Kevin”.
Cycle Lewis Tan
I was supposed to work on this cycle two years ago in 2022. Sadly
because of important health problems, I was unable to do, but now I
feel better I will work on it.
Once the Daniel Gillies Cycle is finished, I will write my articles on
Lewis Tan.
The project on Lewis Tan cycle includes a “travel story in the art of
Lewis Tan”, whose main themes of study will be emotions, body
expression and identity. In 2022, I have planned to write a part
questioning Lewis Tan as a metamodernist artist (or not). But with my
health problems I forgot what I projected to write about that section
of the article. So this part is abandoned.
Two year ago I was supposed to make a review of one of his films but
I am not sure it will always be interessing when I work on it. So we
will see…
On the other hand, I have lined up an article about martial art films
and their power of resilience for the cycle of the same name.
As bonuses (in the same conditions as the Daniel Gillies Cycle), two
novels are envisioned. And as I think he could play very well the
proganist in one of my personnal novel, I will precise it when I
publish it.
Lastly, I am interested by 2/3 artists from his entourage. I will try to
contact them for an interview for the new mag. We will see if I
manage, but their art is inspiring.
Various
Each week, on sunday, I publish on my yumpu account the archives of
my various works (artistic creations, articles from L.ART en
Loire/Minorites/etc., poetry, art …).
I hope I will manage to write my article about Hemingway. I have tried
to work on it since my pregnancy in 2008, but to be honest, with baby,
L.ART en Loire, and life, I never managed to focus on it. It’s what we
call in french my “Arlésienne” 1
As soon as I buy InDesign, I will publish a poetry collection (in
French) I wrote in 2010/2011. A publishing house approached me
years ago, but because of L.ART en Loire I never pursued it.
Instead, you will discover it freely on yumpu.
I will release the audio french version of my articles in English
(/French ?), as I know some of you learn your french with my work. I
precise that I have a remaining west south french accent (from
Tarbes/Toulouse).
For the moment, I make all my artistic work freely. It’s an important
point for me. And the mag will be free for everyone too (as were
L.ART en Loire and Créréales & Tubercules). I consider important for
all to access culture and artistic works. With the previous mag, we
managed as we were read by all social classes even the more down. I
refuse people in difficult financial conditions (homeless people, poor,
persons in indebtedness, etc.) to use 40€ (the cost price of an issue
of L.ART en Loire) in an art magazine. Keep your money and read it
freely !
