MEET MIKE<br />
& LIZ DACOSTA<br />
“There is nothing lacking here as far as<br />
convenience <strong>of</strong> life,” shares Mike DaCosta,<br />
a resident <strong>of</strong> the Kootenay at <strong>Elim</strong> <strong>Village</strong><br />
Our warm, caring Christian community<br />
sets us apart. We’re able to provide a<br />
wonderful pastoral program thanks to<br />
ongoing resident donations made to the<br />
ELIM Christian Care Society.<br />
<strong>Fleetwood</strong>. “Almost six years we’ve lived here,<br />
and we have no regrets!” adds his wife, Liz.<br />

A key aspect that has trans<strong>for</strong>med their daily<br />
lives is the array <strong>of</strong> services ELIM provides.<br />
“Getting on my knees and cleaning is too<br />
hard,” shares Liz. “And some days, we just<br />
don’t feel like cooking.” So, the DaCostas<br />
turned to ELIM to receive housekeeping and<br />
weekly meals from Community Life. But<br />
some services can’t be planned in advance,<br />
such as medical emergencies. Mike recently<br />
found himself in an unexpected situation that<br />
required medical attention. After a quick<br />
phone call, an ELIM nurse showed up at his<br />
door within minutes. “The assurance that<br />
comes from knowing you can pick up the<br />
phone and have a nurse come to your suite<br />
right away—that’s very com<strong>for</strong>ting,” Mike says.<br />

“There’s something <strong>for</strong> everyone!”<br />
The Palms Bistro is a destination <strong>for</strong> the two<br />
as well. They keep a watchful eye on future<br />
Wednesday Specials, highlighted each month<br />
on their TELUS TV homepage, and make it<br />
a point to savour the <strong>of</strong>ferings. “Their butter<br />
chicken is excellent!” says Mike. “It’s a very<br />
com<strong>for</strong>table place to eat and everyone is<br />
friendly,” adds Liz, “and we love the take-out<br />
option too.” They also highlight the bistro staff,<br />
like Jaz, whose helpful presence adds to the<br />
warmth <strong>of</strong> the place, making it not only a great<br />
place to eat, but a great place to socialize.<br />
