Bully Prevention Awareness CATEGORY 1 PreK - 2nd For the past eight years, the Rankin County School District has hosted their Bully Prevention Awareness Poster Contest. Students from grades Pre-K to 12th are encouraged to submit original artwork addressing positive friendships, peer pressure, peer conflict, as well as physical bullying, emotional bullying, social bullying, and cyber-bullying. In recent years, we added a poetry division for the middle/high division to allow another creative outlet for students. “This contest, along with other programs and initiatives, serves our students by allowing them to think outside the box and visually present problems that they or other students may face in regard to bullying and also offers a way for them to be a part of the solution. We feel that when students are reaching out to one another and striving for positivity through opportunities like this contest, they are providing their peers with a message of support and hope,” said Ginger Jones, RCSD director of student support services and counseling. The winning posters and poems in each category are placed in all 28 of the schools in the Rankin County School District. Colton McCoy 2ND GRADE Steen’s Creek Elementary - $100 Lyla Schaffhauser 2ND GRADE StoneBridge Elementary School - $50 Posters were submitted for judging at the school level, and each school submitted three posters and three poems to go on to the district level competition. Each of the six categories had district-level first, second, and third place winners. Rankin County School District had the twelve winning posters and six winning poems reproduced to display in district schools and offices. The Foundation for Rankin County Public Schools provided checks in the amount of $100 for first place winners, $50 for second place winners, and $25 for third place winners.
