Function
With the electric fence, the effect is based on the fear of
fenced animals before electric shock. The strength of the
impact as well as the distances of the alarm impulses are
covered by the provisions of the European Standard EN61011
specified and adhered to, so that there is no danger to
humans and animals. For example, the voltage on the fence
does not exceed 10000 volts, the pulse distances are greater
than one second and the pulse energy does not exceed five
joules.
Construction and grounding
The electric fence system consists of a pulse generator, the
electric fence device can supply 9 volts, 12 volts or 230 volts
depending on purpose, requirement, animal species and
fence length. An electrical conductor such as a wire, a strand,
a belt or a rope is also required. This electrical conductor is
clamped on insulators. In addition, a facility for grounding the
electric fence is connected.
They are not suitable for further use. One simple and effective
check is in the quiet evening hours, best after a downpour, if
possible, check that no jumping sparks can be seen or heard,
and that the tested insulator can still be used.
Charging energy – impulse energy
The decisive feature for the strength of a device is not – as is
often wrongly assumed – the tension, but the impulse energy
actually available on the fence. It is a measure of the shock
effect of the device and is used in a resistance of 500 ohms
measured and indicated.

The electric fence device is connected to the fence via
a connection cable and connected to the earth post via
another. In order to guarantee a good function of the electric
fence system, you should put several earth piles at a distance
of two to three meters about one meter deep and connect
them with each other. This is especially recommended for
dry or sandy soil and powerful electric fence devices. This
is the only way to guarantee the full effectiveness of the
fence device. Attention should be paid to the use of the right
insulators. Older, porous or weathered insulators can reduce
the performance of the fence device.
