Function<br />

With the electric fence, the effect is based on the fear of<br />

fenced animals before electric shock. The strength of the<br />

impact as well as the distances of the alarm impulses are<br />

covered by the provisions of the European Standard <strong>EN</strong>61011<br />

specified and adhered to, so that there is no danger to<br />

humans and animals. For example, the voltage on the fence<br />

does not exceed 10000 volts, the pulse distances are greater<br />

than one second and the pulse energy does not exceed five<br />

joules.<br />

Construction and grounding<br />

The electric fence system consists of a pulse generator, the<br />

electric fence device can supply 9 volts, 12 volts or 230 volts<br />

depending on purpose, requirement, animal species and<br />

fence length. An electrical conductor such as a wire, a strand,<br />

a belt or a rope is also required. This electrical conductor is<br />

clamped on insulators. In addition, a facility for grounding the<br />

electric fence is connected.<br />

They are not suitable for further use. One simple and effective<br />

check is in the quiet evening hours, best after a downpour, if<br />

possible, check that no jumping sparks can be seen or heard,<br />

and that the tested insulator can still be used.<br />

Charging energy – impulse energy<br />

The decisive feature for the strength of a device is not – as is<br />

often wrongly assumed – the tension, but the impulse energy<br />

actually available on the fence. It is a measure of the shock<br />

effect of the device and is used in a resistance of 500 ohms<br />

measured and indicated.<br />

The electric fence device is connected to the fence via<br />
