Growing in the Prophetic
didn’t He just give me my own vision? Of course, I didn’t have much faith in
the validity of such experiences. By this time, I had accepted the idea of God
healing the sick, but I wasn’t prepared for prophetic experiences.
At first these men’s claims seemed to be the stuff of vivid but misguided
imaginations rather than genuine revelations from God. But soon, the Holy
Spirit confirmed their genuineness. At the same time, my most trusted
friends and co-workers also began believing these were true prophecies.
Though all of this ran contrary to my long-term reservations about this kind
of thing, I decided to take a step of faith and allow for the prophetic ministry
in our church.
From 1983 to 1985, my experiences with prophetic ministry brought
great blessing to the new church that I planted in Kansas City. Yes, if not
handled properly, it can cause much confusion and division. Yes, I made
many mistakes in my early days in administrating the prophetic ministry in
this new church.
Initially, there were five to six people with prophetic ministries whom
the Lord gathered to our young church within its first couple years. Then,
after that, another seven to eight prophetic ministries joined us as well. We
were in for very interesting times. I could never have imagined the dramatic
unfolding of events that were to come. Stay with me as I tell you more.
