After two very close semi-finals, RBAI and
Ballymena Academy came out victorious
to secure their spots in the Danske Bank
Schools’ Cup Final here in Kingspan
Stadium on Monday 18 March.
RBAI came out to defend their title as
winners of last year’s competition against
Wallace High School here at the stadium on
Tuesday 27 February. They stole the show
with an impressive attacking performance
in the first half and stand-out performance
from full-back Joshua GIbson, scoring a
hat-trick of tries. The final score resulted
in 33-20 to the current cup holders and
they will go on to see if they can hold on
for a consecutive year.
Ballymena and
RBAI to go
head to head in
Ballymena battled it out with Sullivan here
on Wednesday 28 February in very wet
conditions. Ballymena haven’t lifted the cup
since 2010 and so had that perseverance to
push on to the final. In what was a thrilling
match between the two sides, Ballymena
were aggressive in both aspects of the game
and their first half attacking performance,
combined with excellent defensive work in
the second half, made it a convincing win,
despite Sullivan’s best efforts, resulting in
a final score of 25-14.
