all contribute to putting out the fire after an initial breach.<br />

Senior management have plenty to do to properly insulate their firms, and this will involve increased<br />

investment in cybersecurity across the board. But this shouldn't be a hard sell to management. <strong>The</strong><br />

threats have ramped up and the risk has increased exponentially.<br />

Deepfake breaches will result in significant reputational, financial and regulatory fallout. No CEO will want<br />

to be at the helm <strong>for</strong> the next high-profile deepfake scam. So they need to step up to the plate now and<br />

start taking steps to defend themselves. <strong>The</strong> stakes are too high to wait <strong>for</strong> the government to do it <strong>for</strong><br />

them.<br />

About the Author<br />

Michael Marcotte is Founder & CEO of artius.iD. He is one of the premier<br />

cybersecurity executives in the US. After joining in 2006, Michael was<br />

Global CIO, Global CDO and President (Hughes Cloud Services) at<br />

EchoStar, the multi-billion-dollar satellite communications giant. He was<br />

one of the very first people to serve as Chief Digital Officer in a major<br />

international corporation. Michael left EchoStar in 2014 and has applied<br />

his expertise at a range of firms in technology, cybersecurity and venture<br />

capital. As well as artius.iD, he is founder, chairman and CEO at<br />

innovation lab software and venture capital firm Artius Global Holdings<br />

and cybersecurity firm Praelium Systems. Michael holds a number of<br />

public advisory positions. He is co-founder of the National <strong>Cyber</strong>security Intelligence Center (NCC) and<br />

was founder and chairman of the NCC’s Rapid Response Center Board. He has been a senior advisor<br />

<strong>for</strong> several heads of state and US Senators. He is also a board member at the Office of Economic<br />
