The focus of their next Nature Tots program will be Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear. The Nature Tots program is aimed at children ages 2-5 with an adult chaperone and takes place the second Wednesday each month at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The event is free. Registration is encouraged and can be done online at www.dickinsoncountyconservationboard.com. The next class will take place on Wednesday, March 13 and they are excited to bring the fun. “It will be a bear-y good program! We are exploring the various species of bears found around the world,” said naturalist Brittney Snell. “The program will highlight what makes bears special and include hands-on activities.” In addition to learning some cool things about bears, the kids will also get to learn what real bears feel like. “The kids will get to touch a real bear pelt,” Snell said. “We will also use our own bodies to try to walk like bears do while It will be a bear-y good program! We are exploring the various species of bears found around the world. The program will highlight what makes bears special and include hands-on activities. learning about different aspects of a bear’s life.” Using their bodies to imitate bears isn’t just a fun activity, it’s also something that helps the toddlers in their physical development. “The stage of life for a 2-5 year-old includes big gains in numerous areas of development. Nature Tots aims to support learning through large motor, small motor, speech, and social development,” Snell said. “Each participant experiences a safe program to engage in nature and hopefully grow excitement toward the outdoor world.” The staff at the Nature Center are committed to getting kids in nature, exploring Brittney Snell it and loving it from a young age. “Nature Tots provides a foundational opportunity for kids to develop a love for the natural world. By creating programs that engage participants and build relationships, we can encourage the next generation to be curious about our world and to be kind to animals,” Snell said. In addition to helping kids develop a lifelong love and appreciation for the natural world, Nature Tots also helps kids and adults spend some quality time together. “Our Nature Tots program includes an adult and child combination. The duo will gain opportunities for future conversations, build amazing memories, and try new skills together,” Snell said. F Okoboji | Iowa
