ECA REVIEW HANNA/CORONATION/STETTLER, AB March 14'24 7 OBITUARIES Family and friends brought her true happiness Lena Waltham was born Feb. 23, 1929 at Andrew, Alta. to Kornel and Pearl Skladan. She attended school in Andrew until moving to Edmonton to attend Alberta College. After finishing college she moved to Coronation, Alta. to work at the Alberta Treasury Branch. A young woman travelling by bus from Edmonton to Coronation – arriving in the dark of night. Woke the next morning to Waltham look out her window and say to herself – where on earth am I? She met and married our dad Robert William Waltham on Oct. 7, 1950. They settled on the farm north of Coronation and mom worked very hard alongside dad - raising five children (one son and four daughters), gardening (to feed the family); raising chickens and purebred cattle. Mom and dad sold the farm and retired to Coronation in 1981. During her retirement years mom enjoyed gardening (for enjoyment), golfing, travelling and socializing with her close friends. All her grandkids have fond memories of spending holidays and summer visits in Coronation. Mom and dad sold their house in Coronation and moved to Strathmore, Alta. in 2007. Mom enjoyed holidays with family and during her visits she liked to be kept busy. She always wanted something to do whether it was cooking, baking or whatever needed to get done. These visits always included plenty of card games! While mom enjoyed her visits with family, she looked forward to returning to her home at Sagewood Retirement Community in Strathmore where she lived independently until her passing. When asked what her secret was to a long and healthy life – she would smile and say, “blue berries and green onions”. The time spent with family and her close friends at Sagewood, who loved and cared for her deeply were what brought her true happiness. Mom will be remembered as a very special lady - always kind, welcoming and how she greeted everyone with a smile. Lena was predeceased by her husband (Bill Waltham), her parents, four brothers and four sisters, mother, and father-in-law (Archie and Susan Waltham), brother-in-law (John Waltham) and son-in-law (Lawrne Airey). Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren. Jacquie (Lyle) Bargholz of Sundre, Ryan (Christine), Kevin and Leah Bargholz; Rob (Deb) Waltham of Coronation, Sasha (Peter) Fiselier and Jessie (Bjorn) Dyck; Laurie Waltham of Sundre; Susan Lindmark of Olds, Colby (Karissa) Lindmark; Sandra (Carl) Rideout of Chestermere, Matthew (Jess), Alexander (Aurora) Rideout and Wendy (Andrew) Brathwaite. And great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A private service was held for Lena at the Wheatland Funeral Chapel in Strathmore, Alta. Lifetime together, still together Marilyn Bunbury was born Sept. 18, 1940, in Galahad, Alta. to David and Ethel McGowan. She married Tom Bunbury Oct. 2, 1958. They enjoyed living on their farm north of Castor for 43 years. This was a mixed cattle and grain farm. They moved to Castor in 2001. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, sewing, berry picking, playing cards and being involved in many community organizations such as Royal Purple and she saw the communities need for the Calf Help Line. Bunbury Marilyn enjoyed their many trips to Mexico, Hawaii and many bus tours around North America. Marilyn passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2024, with family by her side. Marilyn was loving remembered by her husband Tom until his passing on March 5, 2024. THOMAS “TOM” BUNBURY Tom Bunbury was born on Nov. 15, 1935 in Castor, Alta. to George and Sarah Bunbury. He grew up with 10 siblings on the family farm in the Lauderdale district. Tom and Marilyn were united in marriage on Oct. 2, 1958 and lived on the family farm for 43 years. They moved to Castor in 2001. Tom enjoyed visiting with friends and family, playing cards, driving around the county to check out the fields, showing off his 1963 Pontiac Bonneville, driving the golf cart and visiting all of the neighbourhood dogs. Giving back to the community was important to Bunbury him. He was a member of the Castor Elks for many years. He enjoyed their many trips around North America. Tom passed peacefully on March 5, 2024 with family by his side. Tom and Marilyn are lovingly remembered by their four children: Daniel (Charlene) Bunbury of Castor, Alta., Valerie (Donald) Minchin of Sherwood Park, Alta., Marla Vierboom of Spruce Grove, Alta., and Rhonda (Kelly) Knorr of Blackfalds, Alta.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as other family and many dear friends. A Celebration of Life for Tom and Marilyn was held at the Castor Community Hall on Wed. March 13, 2024, at 2 p.m. Memorial donations in memory of Marilyn and Tom may be made and sent directly to Knox United Church, Castor, Alta., the Castor Cemetery, c/o Town of Castor, or to Our Lady Of The Rosary Hospital Foundation, Castor, Alta. Notice of Application Confined Feeding Operation 2024 Assessment Notices Notice is hereby given in accordance with the provisions of Section 311 of the Municipal Government Act, Revised Statutes of Alberta 2000, Chapter N-26 that the Town of Hanna has mailed Assessment Notices to all persons appearing on the Assessment Roll as of the Assessment Date of March 6, 2024. Ltd. has filed Application RA24002 with the Natural Resources Conservation Board (NRCB) to obtain an approval to expand an existing multi-species confined feeding operation (CFO) on the SW 2-36-13 W4M and SE 3-36-13 W4M in the County of Paintearth, Alberta. The application is to build a new replacement layer barn and to increase the number of chicken layers from 17,500 to 30,000. This will bring the total permitted livestock at this CFO to 450 sows farrow to finish, 6,000 chicken broilers, 200 milking cows (pus associated dries and replacements) and 30,000 chicken layers. Filing a Response Any person who is directly affected by the application may submit a written response to the NRCB. The response must be received by the NRCB on or before 4:30 pm on April 15, 2024. Submissions should be made to 07.2021 the NRCB address provided below. A copy of the responses will be sent to the applicant for comment. Responses regarding the application may be posted on the NRCB’s public website, as they are public records and are non-confidential. Your written response must include your name, the legal land description of your residence or landholdings, mailing address, phone number, and email.
