Abortion is not an inalienable right. Though governments are bound by the inalienable rights of human beings and the principles of justice, the citizens must ensure that their governments are truly just and good to all human beings. Ultimately, The Roe vs. Wade decision was as grievous a violation of human rights and justice as the Dred Scott vs. Sanford decision. As the fathers of our Church and our country recognized, justice cannot be placed into the hands of the government alone. Though governments (the executive, legislative, and judicial branches) are bound by the inalienable rights of human beings and the principles of justice, the citizens must ensure that their governments are truly just and good to all human beings. Justice is dependent on you — not simply the halls or congress or courts of the land. Over 350,000 Northerners died in a war to end slavery, but smaller acts of justice were also significant. Think of Harriet Tubman and all those who helped enslaved people escape to free states, abolitionist writers like Frederick Douglass and Harriett Beecher Stowe who challenged the nation’s conscience, and ordinary people on juries that refused to enforce the unjust Fugitive Slave Act. Roe has been overturned, and so now the battle lines have been redrawn at the states. In many states today, preborn children have been falsely legally disenfranchised, stripped of legal protections, and had gross injustice inflicted upon them based on false facts, false reasoning, and negation of their inalienable human rights. If something is outrageous, challenge it. If something is unjust, rectify it. If whole populations of people are being persecuted, do everything you can to help.
