Welcome to our family and friends,
May 24 th & 25 th , 2024 * 5784
Parashat B’har
Welcome to the Bar Mitzvah of Jack Gwin.
Today is an extraordinary day for us as our son, Jack Thomas Gwin,
becomes a bar mitzvah. This is a symbolic moment in Jack’s life as he
transitions from childhood to adulthood. He has studied and learned
about Judaism through his years of schooling at Temple Adas Shalom. As a
result, he will become a more productive member of the Jewish faith as
well as cultivating a deeper commitment to those around him and G-d.
Jack will be called to read from the Torah and along with Rabbi Meeka, will
guide you through the service. He will be engaged in all aspects of the
service and we are immensely proud of all the hard work that he has put
into this day.
We are truly blessed to have all of you here with us on this momentous
occasion and we would like to especially thank the teachers who have
instilled in Jack the pride of being a member of this beautiful religion. A
special thank you goes out to Rabbi Meeka and Morah Linda Needel for
their guidance through this process.
With love,
Andrea and Matthew Gwin
Torah Portion Preview
For Emor
Shabbat beginning May 24 th , 2024
In Parshat B’har, God describes the law of the Sabbatical year.
God said to Moses, “Six years you may sow your field and six years
you may prune your vineyard…But in the seventh year the land shall
have a Sabbath year of complete rest…You shall not reap the after
growth of your harvest.” As world events became more challenging,
it became apparent to everybody that many people were no longer
“reaping the after growth of their harvest.” However, it is comforting
to know that much like the ritual Sabbatical year; these challenges
are maybe somewhat of a refocusing, reenergizing, ritual as well.
Sometimes cyclical world events help us refocus on family and
friends. Financial challenges remind us to keep our consuming and
spending in check and can warn us that the country and the world
are quickly getting out of hand. In a way, these challenges give us a
chance to get back on our feet before we plummet any further.
Strange that a sabbatical may pose as a challenge.
