Creating a Legacy–Heritage Society Honors Loyal Donors<br />

<strong>CCAC</strong> has a long tradition of loyal donors.<br />

To recognize the generosity of those who have<br />

supported <strong>CCAC</strong> over the years, the <strong>CCAC</strong><br />

Educational Foundation founded the Heritage<br />

Society in 1995. The society is made up of<br />

alumni, faculty, staff and friends who have<br />

created planned gifts to benefit the college.<br />

Currently there are 14 members of the society<br />

(see donor listing, <strong>page</strong> 9). Every member<br />

has generously agreed to provide the college<br />

planned gifts such as charitable bequests,<br />

remainder trusts, gift annuities and life<br />

insurance proceeds.<br />

Heritage Society members play an important<br />

role in enhancing <strong>CCAC</strong>’s educational mission.<br />

Donors become society members when they<br />

inform the <strong>CCAC</strong> Educational Foundation that<br />

they have independently established a planned<br />

gift or when they work with foundation staff in<br />

creating such a gift. A gift may be of any size.<br />

Donors determine the type of planned gift<br />

and its size based on their personal experience,<br />

individual financial objectives and other<br />

special interests.<br />

Creating Your Legacy<br />

Planned gifts have always been a crucial part<br />

of the college’s financial growth and stability,<br />

especially regarding endowment funds. Some<br />

of <strong>CCAC</strong>’s buildings and many scholarships<br />

bear the names of generous donors who chose<br />

to create a planned gift. These tributes illustrate<br />

well how planned gifts continue to have a<br />

lasting impact on our students’ lives.<br />

<strong>CCAC</strong> sincerely thanks all of our Heritage<br />

Society members for investing in the security<br />

and growth of the college. These donors have<br />

entrusted their dreams and aspirations for the<br />

future of <strong>CCAC</strong> into the care and custody of<br />

the college. They have welcomed <strong>CCAC</strong> into<br />

their families by sharing from their estates, or<br />

other resources.<br />

Contrary to some common beliefs, estate planning isn’t just for the wealthy. There are many ways to help pass along assets to family<br />

members, often with better results than initially thought possible, while including <strong>CCAC</strong> in the process.<br />

Planned gifts are a tremendous source of support for <strong>CCAC</strong> operations and the <strong>CCAC</strong> Educational Foundation’s endowment funds.<br />

The importance of such gifts is honored through the Heritage Society (see above).<br />

here are a few ways that planning for the future can benefit you and <strong>CCAC</strong>:<br />

making a Bequest through your will<br />

The foundation encourages alumni and friends—of all ages—to consider making a gift by bequest to <strong>CCAC</strong>. When making a bequest, you<br />

can specify either a specific amount or a percentage of your residuary estate to be gifted to <strong>CCAC</strong> through your will. Bequests made from a<br />

donor’s residuary estate are distributed only after payment of taxes, debts, settlement costs and general and specific bequests.<br />

Whatever form of bequest you choose, it is not subject to estate or inheritance taxes and so significantly reduces the tax burden<br />

of an estate. The value of the bequest may be deducted when the taxable estate is determined, and there is no limit to the deduction.<br />

You may also specify how you would like the college to use your gift, which will enable you to support a program or area that is<br />

important to you.<br />

gifts that Pay you income for life<br />

Do you want to support <strong>CCAC</strong>, but worry about having enough income for yourself and your loved ones? Life-income gifts such as<br />

gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts can provide donors with an income stream, significant tax savings, and the satisfaction of<br />

providing <strong>CCAC</strong> with vital, long-term resources.<br />
