We had a great reunion at the Penn Club in New York City 

this past March. A varied and interesting group of camp 

alumni with spouses ventured forth to share remembrances, 

come up to speed with the latest developments at camp and

In early March we traveled down to New York for our first 

reunion in a while that wasn’t at the home of Hollis von 

Summer (CCSC’89-‘02) and Michael Kennedy (CCSC’88- 

‘02). We miss them. So… we wound up at the Penn Club 

which was very nice and accommodating. We had a power 

house group attend the reunion where we had much fun! 

Attending were: Alexandra Benjamin (CCSC’93-’10), 

Elizabeth Brennan (CCSC’91-’94), Lucy Lang (CCSC’92- 

’00) with her boyfriend Scott, Whitney Doherty (CCSC ’81- 

’87), Joyce Gendler (CCSC’00-’07), Johanna Lovecchio 

(CCSC’00-’07), Josh Jamner (CCSC’96-’04), Eric Wolfson 

(CCSC’93-’99) and Todd Gutnick (CCSC’82-’91) with Avi, 

a friend from work and experienced camper. Much was 

discussed and ruminated on followed by a dinner out in the 

City. A quality experience! Attending from camp were:

2011 Boston Reunion 

MARCH 18th 

Boston, March 18th – This is, of course, an 

extremely wonderful event that BA Harris has 

hosted for a number of years and each year they 

get better and better. BA has a lovely view of 

Boston Harbor and Logan and this provides a 

great backdrop for the Boston Alumni Reunion. 

As usual we had people attend we weren’t aware 

would and we had people not attend that we 

thought would. However, in its usual fashion, 

this was a fun time.

No one could have predicted the confluence of this crowd of 

campers!! Quite a crew! Spanning the decades! Joining us in 

early March were: Don Mell (M’71-CCSC’79) , Lorin

2011 Ft. Lauderdale Reunion 

What an amazing reunion we had in early February in the 

great Florida city of Ft. Lauderdale. Leaving the cold, 

snowing, sleety, icy northern climes of the Cape and 

Boston and flying south into the sun and heat was truly an 

exceptional experience. Our hostess, Julia Fraser (W’69- 

CCSC’81 & more), outdid herself with the selection of 

Lago Mar for our reception and lunch. It was a very relaxing 

and worthwhile experience for the 13 alumni who 

showed up for the occasion. Joining Julia and Jun Song, 

my wife, and myself were Karen Finklestein (W’70- 

CCSC’77), Midge Fraser Kral (W’65-’70), Jane Levin, 

Mike Raymond (M’65-’70), John Van Leer (M’53-’55), 

Lauren Goldman (W’64-’70), Bob Kerr (CCSC’79-’84), 

Caitlin Sullivan Spaulding (CCSC’89-’99), Tomas Ayala 

(CCSC’07-’11) and Mike Horn (CCSC’87-‘00). The reception 

and lunch reflected intensively on the experience both 

old and new – Tomas is currently the head counselor of 

the Seniors unit and wants to bring back the original 

guides song. The discussion ranged from the Middle East 

to Charter Schools to the car parts industry to global 

warming and sea level rise. We also learned a lot about 

how working at Raftco can prepare you for work in one of 

the larger ports in the United States. With the weather the 

way it was and the people who showed up – we can’t wait 

for next year to roll around for our next reunion. Of note 

at this event was Jane Levin. While Jane was not a camper 

per se – she had an extensive involvement in our camp life, 

with Berry and James and the rest of our hearty crew in 

the 70’s. Of course she was at Rhode Island School of 

Design with Robert. She’s a realtor in Boynton Beach and 

would love to sell you something if you are looking at 

Florida. After this weekend, I’m almost ready. 

2011 Denver Reunion 

At the behest of the one and only 

Meghan Schmillen, we ventured forth 

into mile high country for a Denver 

Reunion. In what can only be described 

as a local establishment with a lot of 

local color we had a great group of 

Monomoy, Wono and CCSC alumni 

gather for some reminiscing and a lot of 

fun. Meghan, our hostess, outdid herself 

with this effort – presaging her wedding, 

of course!

2011 San Francisco Reunion 

January 15th 

We had a great reunion lunch in the Hotel Monaco Grand 

Café this past Saturday January 15th. With our attendees 

spanning the past 6 decades at camp, it made for a lively 

and entertaining time as our group discussed all facets of 

camp and watching our archival films from the ‘50’s for 

both Monomoy and Wono. The group included: Karen 

Rauschenbach Cook (W’56-’57), Jay Sherwin (M’69-’70), 

Laurie Gardner (CCSC’79-’80) and her friend Jane, Chase 

Hensel (CCSC’99-’02) and Gwen Luca (CCSC’97-’05). The 

conversation ranged from Gerry Brown to the old SOGE 

schedule (Jay remembers vividly swimming at 9 in the 

morning in mid-August with the winds out of the north. 

Turning blue was not an option). Chase reported working 

at Google and Laurie just finished writing a book – there 

will be an advertisement for it in our next Jib Sheet. Karen 

is now living in Shingle Springs and liked our film from the 

early 50’s. She remembers Wono the way it was. While 

some of the buildings have changed, the essence of camp has 

stayed the same. This was such an interesting lunch that 

Laurie Gardner has invited us back next year to do this in 

Berkeley and we are going to make an effort to do that. We 

were also joined by some friends of Jun Song’s (Henri’s 

wife) who found the films and conversation such that they 

wished they had come to camp as well. Future camper Song 

Rauschenbach slept through most of the lunch and thus had 

no comment.

Bregenz, Austria is an incredibly beautiful place and an 

absolutely wonderful location for our Austrian Reunion. 

Blending the charm of old world Austria, the Alps and our 

wonderful hosts – the Luerzers – Cheryl and I had a great 

time. Of course, it helped enormously that Margit Luerzer is 

a professional travel planner (we can only highly recommend

her to anyone who wants to really see Austria). From the 

event itself, in a quaint, petite Schloss (Duering Schlossle), to 

our outings climbing the walking trails in and around 

Bregenz, we were made to feel quite at home. This event drew 

a number of our current campers, some soon to be alumni 

campers and some future potential campers. We also had our 

great friend Pierre Lamballais travel all the way from Paris, 

France to be with us. What an epic journey! Cheryl and I are 

extremely grateful to our hosts – the Luerzers including former 

Service Cup winner Philipp.

In a particularly stunning setting high in the Far West, 

Meghan Schmillen wed during August of this past year. It 

was “really cool” as one guest described it. Attending that 

we can remember were:

Passings 

Myra Hiatt Kraft (W’53-’59) passed away last July. She is 

pictured here with her husband Robert. We have many 

fond memories of Myra at camp. Berry was particularly 

pleased when Myra paid her a visit during our 75th 

Anniversary celebration. Henri’s first meeting with Myra 

was on the top of Masada in Israel when Myra walked up 

to Henri –wearing a CCSC hat- and asked how Berry was.

Jim Breslauer 

Ann McGrath Cooney 

passed away last December. 

As a camp mother (Lisa and 

Jonathan) and wife of long 

time camper and staffer Peter 

Cooney she will be missed. 

Mary (Dede) Breslauer recently 

sent us news of the passing of her 

brother Jim. Jim was a camper at 

Monomoy in the 60’s and was 

well know and well regarded. He 

had worked as an analyst in the 

financial and real estate markets 

for more than 20 years but more 

important he was an individual 

truly involved in the history of our 

civilization and equally important 

in the current events of the day. 

He will be missed.

Prill Sargent Korell (W’39-’55) passed 

away in March of 2011. She was a 

major force at Camp Wono for many 

years and very much loved by Berry 

and all the Delhanty family members. 

Prill had been very active in the town 

of Concord serving on many boards 

and town committees. Her three 

children Karen, Barb and Doug all 

attended camp.

You have all attended or worked at CCSC for several years and are very knowledgeable of our Summer Camps. However, you 

may not realize that we also provide another excellent opportunity to a different set of children and adults to experience camp 

with our Off Season Camp Rental Business. During the spring and fall we open our doors to any group who might consider 

renting a space in camp. 

This year at CCSC we hosted 100 different groups ranging in size from 20 people to 900. The majority of these groups were 

school groups who travelled to us as a field trip, but we also had sports camps, church retreats, college outing clubs, weekend 

charity events, reunions and single events such as rehearsal dinner clambakes. Each group has a unique fit for our campus that 

include such things as an interactive classroom, science curriculum, conference meeting and recreation space, or just a distinctive 

place to retreat to for the weekend with family and friends. We hope you will spread the word about our unique location 

and the opportunities that Cape Cod Sea Camps has to host different groups. 

As someone who understands the value of Camp and the experience of being at the Cape Cod Sea Camps; we would like to see

2011 Alumni Portraits 

Molly Bresnen Zuckerberg (CCSC'96) stopped 

by for a visit last April with her children Sam 

and Haley and her nephews Luke, Henry and 

George. Molly lives in Needham, MA. 

This was a rare treat indeed. Alexander Gordon 

(M’33-’36) came all the way from Poolesville, 

MD for a visit this past May. At 90 years old it was 

great to see him and he was thrilled to be back at 

camp. He is pictured here with his wife, Bette, their 

daughter Valerie Slattery and a bunch of 

grandchildren.

is a college professor and Administrator and 

remembered fondly being the captain of the 

white team during her years at Wono.

Geoff Gardner (CCSC’82-‘87 ) and his family 

for a visit. Matt is living and working in 

Boston and Geoff is in Boston and Natick 

working with his Sel de la Terre Restaurant 

.business. Geoff’s children attended the 

Mighty Monomoy Day Camp.

return of Kemp Fuller (CCSC'81-'89). A 

mainstay of camp in the 80's and now living

It's really him!! Bobby Kleinau (CCSC '97 & 

'03) wanders back into the fold in early 

September for a visit. Bobby is the Fitness 

Manager at Sportsclub LA in Boston which 

is no small undertaking. 

There are stories and then there are stories 

about this alumnus - Jimmy Kantor (M'74- 

CCSC'90) returns to drop his daughter, 

Annalise, off for a stint at camp. Jimmy is a 

former Service Cup winner and worked for 

many years at RAFTCO –ed. note - an honorable 

enterprise. Jimmy lives in Swampscott 

and is a physical therapist. He is pictured 

here with former Sailing Master – Henri. 

Henri knows many of these stories. 

Former Counselor Bob Dorfman (M'71) 

returns all the way form Cotuit, MA. Bob 

was a JC counselor who specialized in swim 

and golf. He is pictured here with Otis who 

is starting to threaten Sherry as to who is in 

the most alumni portraits!

This is hard to believe - these cute Phelps 

kids that we used to see in X-mas postcards 

now almost all grown up. One of the infamous 

ones - Rusty Phelps (CCSC'84-'86) 

returns with his wife, Maureen, and their 

children. They are living in Catonsville, MD 

and Rusty works in the financial sector. 

Chris Baker (M’63-’69) with son Derek stop 

by for a visit with Henri. Chris lives in 

Newton, MA. 

Emily Cullen Pruszinski (CCSC'88-'97) 

returns with her husband Jolyon and children 

Kyra, Teddy and Joseph. They are living in 

W. Lebanon, NH. One can never forget the 

violin background music that Emily provided 

to several Rendez Vous evenings during her 

tenure at camp. Notice Sherry in this picture 

– she’s worried about Otis! 

Laura Pekrul Riss (CCSC'82-'88) drops her 

kids (Andrew, Matthew & Patrick) off at 

camp and visits her Uncle - Henri. This former 

Service Cup winner is living in Chester, NJ 

and is accompanied by her husband, Bryan. 

Former Best Camper Andy Barrengos 

(CCSC’75-’77) and his wife return for a visit 

all the way from Mill Valley, CA. Andy works 

in San Francisco in the financial world. 

What a dynamo - Tracey Walker (MDC’75- 

CCSC’72) popped in for a brief visit to say 

hello. She is a principal at a school in 

Boston's North End and had some great stories 

about that. She is bookended by Sherry 

and Henri.

Walter Crump (M'41-'42) spend some time 

with us in early July reminiscing about Camp 

Monomoy. It was great fun and we were 

glad that he made it back. Walter lives in 

Belvedere, CA. He is pictured here with 

Henri. 

Back to make sure we all haven't been taken 

away by erosion is Melinda Mitchell 

Shumway (W'66-CCSC'75). Melinda is pictured 

here with Nancy and Ed - who is actually 

in charge of making sure we don't get 

washed away. Melinda lives in Concord, MA 

and both her children have been CCSC 

campers.

in Littleton, MA and is the former head of 

our Alumni Association.

drop off the next generation Kreisler campers.

clan that left quite a mark at CCSC. She is

Davida Williams (CCSC'98-'02) popped back 

from the west coast to check on the progress 

at camp. She reflected on the great lifelong 

friends she made at camp and the awesome 

memories. 

The classic case of coming for a visit and 

staying a while. Suzanne Medwid (CCSC'07- 

'11) stopped by to say hello and wound up 

working during this past summer. In the real 

world she is coaching soccer at Washington

Nancy Tucker Thornton (W'56-'72) comes 

down from the mountains of Arvada, CO to 

wander around the alluvial plains of Cape Cod. 

She is booked-ended by our wonderful duo of 

Nancy and Sherry. She “misses the good ole’ 

days” but don’t we all.

There can be only one Whitney Doherty 

(CCSC'81-'87) and here she is with her 

nephew Briggs on opening day of second session. 

Whitney lives in Brooklyn and is very 

involved with our CCSC alumni program.

Michael Raymond (M'65-'71) and is son 

Greg who is an Eagle Scout and generally 

fantastic young man. They were up on a fishing

Chris. Lisa is a former Service Cup winner

retired educator who worked at the Univ. of

from Hollis von Summer (CCSC’89-’02), 

Michael Kennedy (CCSC'88-'02) and their son 

Dean pop in and visit with Daniella and 

Joanna. They were spending the summer on 

Nantucket where a number of former campers 

visited them. Hollis and Michael have been 

wonderful hosts of many CCSC NY reunions 

and are currently living in Greenwich, CT.

Richard Einhorn (M'59-'64) came back for a 

visit with his wife Amy this past August. 

Richard is living in New York City and is a 

music composer. His reaction to CCSC was

Crowder Porter (W'70's) returned to Wono 

to visit her daughter Kelly (pictured here with 

her) who was attending a post-season soccer 

camp. Lynn lives in Westwood and works as

'58) return for a visit with hi wife Ann. 

Edward is retired and living in Phoenix, AZ. 

Meet the Bicks- Ali (CCSC’02-’11), Alex 

(CCSC’00-’08) and parents Jonathan and 

Barbara. This long time camp family all the 

way from Short Hills, NJ visits with David 

and Sherry. 

A great visit from Daniel Ginsburg 

(CCSC'85-'91). Daniel lives in NYC with his 

wife, Jennifer, and son Jordan. He is a lawyer. 

Ilana Shulman Gutstein (CCSC'83-'92) stops 

in for a visit with her husband Ben and their 

two lovely daughters. Ilana is a former 

Directors Efficiency cup winner who lives in 

Scarsdale and works in NYC. 

A pleasant and wonderful surprise from the 

other side of the big pond. Oonagh Korver 

Simon (CCSC’01-’03) and her husband Ben fit 

us into their hectic schedule for a visit last 

June. Oonagh lives in Devon, UK and is an 

Occupational Therapist for the National 

Health Service 

Whitney Hamill (late 80's) stopped by for a 

visit with Michael and Nancy this past 

August. She is living in Boston. 

Lawrence Jeydel (M’63-’67) swung by camp 

this past October with his wife Alexandra. 

They live in New York and he remembers 

quite a few guys he went to camp with. 

A post camp running program brought an old 

camper to the doorstep of the Big House. Jamie 

Harrison (M'73-CCSC'76) stopped by and we 

had a great chat about all things relevant and 

irrelevant. Jamie is living in Orange, CT. 

This former Camp power couple stopped by 

in late August to say hello. Bruce and Jane 

Corrie (M'73-'74) were both a head counselor 

of the Guides and the head of Arts & Crafts 

at camp. Both of their daughters – Linda and 

Bonnie – attended camp as well. Bruce has 

retired as the Duke Lacrosse coach and had 

served as the athletic director at Bucknell and 

Northwestern.

Jane Gruba Chevalier (CCSC’84-’89 &’92) 

visits with her daughter Hannah and son 

James late August of this year. She is living 

in Marlborough, MA. 

Alex Bick (CCSC’00-’08) can’t get enough of
