LIGHT

WHEN skies are overcast
With clouds in angry mood;
When all is drear and dark
And only troubles brood;
When waves of oceans blue
In frenzied anger leap;
And vessels staunch and true
Sink in the briny deep;
When streaks of lightning flash
And peals of thunder roar;
When rivers madly dash
To see their source no more;
When days are dark as night
And hope seems to have fled ;
When not a gleam of light
Lifts up my heart, like lead;
'Tis then an angel face
Before my mind appears;
And scatters ev'ry trace
Of idle tears or fears.
With me she forms a bond
That ever guides me right,
As with her angel wand
She turns all gloom to Light.
