HARGOBIND KHURANA SCHOOL OF LIFE SCIENCES<br />

Department of Life Science and Bio-in<strong>for</strong>matics<br />

The Department launched its M.Sc. Programme in July 1996.<br />

Duration of the Post Graduate course is two years. The first year training<br />

deals with core areas like cell biology, biochemistry, genetics,<br />

environmental science, biostatistics, bio-in<strong>for</strong>matics, research<br />

techniques, microbiology and biotechnology. In the second year,<br />

students are exposed to frontier areas in Plant and Animal sciences<br />

depending upon their previous background. A number of research projects<br />

funded by DBT, DST, <strong>UG</strong>C, TAI, ICAR, MOEF have been undertaken by<br />

the faculty members of the department. <strong>UG</strong>C has sanctioned ‘Special<br />

Assistance Programme’ ( DRS-T) to the Department of Life Science.<br />

Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Govt. of India has sanctioned centre of Bioin<strong>for</strong>matics and Biotech Hub to the<br />

university under initiative of the Departments of Life Science. The Department has recently revised the syllabus as per<br />

the National and Regional needs. The Central Instrumentation facility is available in the departments. The Department<br />

of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, New Delhi has also sanctioned FIST to the Department of Life<br />

Science. The students are provided flexibility to select Botany or Zoology stream in 3rd semester and to select their<br />

special papers available in the department.<br />

ii] M.Phil (by course work & dissertation). Duration: Three Semesters. Intake capacity : 15<br />

iii] Ph.D. (by course and research work). Intake capacity : Depending on vacancy.<br />
