Community Assistance Fund Grants 2007-2008
The committee reviewed numerous grant requests and awarded
funding to the following agencies/projects:

American Diabetes Association $2,500
To fund free educational workshops to increase
awareness about diabetes prevention, detection
and management amongst our community’s at-risk
population.
American Heart Association $2,500
Supported development of educational materials
distributed at the 2008 Go Red for Women Luncheon,
encouraging women to become champions of heart and
stroke health and prevention.
Big Buddy Program $2,000
Offset costs of guest-teaching artists who coordinated
and facilitated training sessions and a series of
performance workshops leading up to the ALL CITY
Teen Poetry Slam Festival.
Boys Hope Girls Hope $2,500
Partially funded scholarships for six scholars and two
chaperones to attend Meet the Wilderness camp, an
adventure-based program for at-risk youth in Colorado.
Brave Heart $2,500
Provided Christmas gifts for children living in foster
care, group homes or with relatives.
Girl Scouts – Audubon Council $5,000
Awarded two grants to purchase automated external
defibrillator for Camp Marydale, GSAC’s 400-acre camp
in St. Francisville, Louisiana.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation $2,500
Funded JDRF’s outreach program (Brad Bella Buddy
Days) to assist and educate families affected by diabetes
in the Greater Baton Rouge area.
Knock Knock Children’s Museum $1,500
Covered fees associated with the Knock Knock’s first
outreach program, Raising a Reader (www.raisingareader.
org) in Early Head Start and public pre-K classrooms.
Louisiana All Veteran’s Reunion $2,500
Underwriting for the first Louisiana three-day All
Veterans’ Reunion event,
