GET WELL SOON
A motorcycle cop was rushed to the hospital
with an inflamed appendix.
The doctors operated and advised him that
all was well. However, the patrolman kept
feeling something pulling at the hairs on his
chest. Worried that it might be a second
surgery the doctors hadn’t told him about, he
finally got enough energy to pull his hospital
gown down enough so he could look at what
was making him so uncomfortable.
Taped firmly across his hairy chest were three
wide strips of adhesive tape, the ultra sticky
kind. Written in large black letters was the
sentence, “Get well soon! Love, from the
nurse you gave a ticket to, last week!”
KETCHUP
A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup
to come out of the bottle. During her struggle
the phone rang so she asked her four-yearold
daughter to answer the phone.
“It’s the Doctor, Mummy” the child said to
her mother.
Then she added, “Mummy can’t come to the
phone right now. She’s hitting the bottle.”
HONEY, HAS ANYONE
EVER TOLD YOU....
After the party, as the couple were driving
home, the woman asked her husband, “Honey,
has anyone ever told you how handsome,
sexy and irresistible to women you are?”
The flattered husband said, “No, dear they
haven’t.”
The wife yells, “Then what the hell gave you
THAT idea at the party tonight?”
JUST NEEDED THE CAR
After shopping for most of the day, a couple
return to find their car has been stolen.
They go to the police station to make a full
report. Then, a detective drives them back
to the parking lot to see if any evidence can
be found at the scene of the crime. To their
amazement, the car has been returned.
There is an envelope on the windshield with
a note of apology and two tickets to a music
concert. The note reads, “I apologise for taking
your car, but my wife was having a baby
and I had to hot-wire your ignition to rush her
to the hospital. Please forgive the inconvenience.
Here are two tickets for tonight’s concert
of Garth Brooks, the country-and-western
music star.”
Their faith in humanity restored, the couple
attend the concert and return home late. They
find their house has been robbed. Valuable
goods have been taken from thoughout the
house, from basement to attic. And, there is a
note on the door reading, “Well, you still have
your car. I have to put my newly born kid
through college somehow, don’t I?”
CREDIT CARD
A man receives a call from his Credit Card
Company, “Sir, we have detected an unusual
pattern of spending on your card, and we are
calling to see if everything is alright.”
“Yes,” replied the man. “My card was stolen
over a month ago.” “Why didn’t you report
your card as stolen?” asked the card company
representative. The man replied, “Well,
whoever stole my card is spending a lot less
than my wife!”

The Editor’s bit
Well the Met Office got it wrong...again. A mild winter? Really? I’m not sure many people
apart from eskimos think -18 degees C is ‘mild’. How can you spend £200 million on a
state of the art computer system and get worse results than the bloke who hangs a bit of
seaweed out of his window? Not only that, but as well as cocking up the weather forecast,
the head man at the Met Office got a 25% pay rise. Just like the average Government Minister
then, make a cock of your job and still get the gold plated, pay and pension package.
Good news; our M.P.s are no longer ripping the piss with their claims expenses. New
rules are being put in place to stop the worst excess’. So, why aren’t more of them being
prosecuted? If you work and claim benefits you shouldn’t, they come after you with force.
If you’re an MP who had every bloody bill paid by us and then flipped your house to claim
on another property, you mumble an apology and offer to pay some back and say you’ll
stand down at the next General Election (taking your substantial exit payment on the way).
Too easy. Out of 648 MPs, there are still too many whinging scroungers, who should be
kicked out of office without the benefit of the very generous severance package and gold
plated pension (that again we pay for).
We’ve got a Facebook page. Why, well because I thought it might be fun. There, I’ve said
it and what’s wrong with some fun? If you can bear to allow some fun into your life then
follow the link at www.suit-boot.co.uk. Hooking up with like minded souls on Facebook
to have a laugh, I understand, but, I ought to say though that I still don’t get the Facebook
games like Farmville and the rest. What the heck is all that about? When you’re 85 (if any
of us make it that far), will you think about how many virtual animals you raised in a farm?
Or will you remember the great nights out with mates, drinking, laughing, loving even
fighting and especially listening to live music? Let me guess...
Woo Hoo, Valentine love is in the air!
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; Saturdays are DJ Nights. Once again Bridport’s compact
venue will be filled to bursting with superb live music. Start your month on Tuesday 2nd February
with Benny and Katy. On the 4th Mutter Slater is the
man with the tunes and then on Friday 5th, Harry North
introduces the weekend. Saturday night is DJ night and on
Wolf followed on the 18th by John Ramon. Dave Griffiths
Open Acoustic Night starting around 8.30pm. Join Dave and Anne Rickard for an open night
of purely acoustic music. All musicians are welcome. On Friday 5th, it’s Charlie Khan and
the Bullfrog Chorus at 9pm. The Inimitable Charlie Khan, a wandering bug eyed pup who
skirts around the edges of reasonably respectable society much the same way mad drunks hang
around outside banks to pester their clientelle; well that’s what it says on the web site anyway.
Quirky off-beat music to move your soul, check it
out at www.myspace.com/charliekhan. On Saturday
6th, Hobo Jones and the Junkyard Dogs create
comedic musical mayhem and then on Sunday 7th
find. Skank Tank are a new band, based in the south
west of Britain. With a rocksteady rhythm section,
unhinged brass and singers who are downright dastardly,
an entertaining night is guaranteed for all. The
six piece play a heady mix of ska and reggae, with
the odd pirate song thrown in for good measure!
Check their MySpace page www.myspace.com/
Shelby’s Elbows
NEW CAREER
Tom was in his early 50’s, retired and had
started a second career. However, he just
couldn’t seem to get to work on time. Every
day, 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good
worker, very sharp, so the Boss was in a quandary
about how to deal with it. Finally, one
day he called him into the office for a talk.
“Tom, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic,
you do a bang-up job, but you’re being late so
often is quite bothersome.”
“Yes, I know Boss, and I am working on it.”
“Well good, you are a team player. That’s
what I like to hear. It’s odd though, you’re
coming in late. I know you’re retired from the
Air Force. What did they say if you came in
late there?”
“They said, “Good morning, Wing Commander.”
THAT MAN AGAIN
Since his little affairs have come to light, several
of Tiger Woods’ sponsors have dropped
him.
However, Pfizer has decided to sponsor him.
They are making a new drug called Tiagra. It’s
good for 18 holes
NAUGHTY BOYS
A couple had two little boys, Johnny was
8 and Billy was 10, who were excessively
mischievous. The two were always getting
into trouble and their parents could be assured
that if any mischief occurred in their
town, their two young sons were in some way
involved.
The parents were at their wits end as to what
to do about their sons’ behaviour. The mother
had heard that a Vicar in town had been
successful in disciplining children in the past,
so she asked her husband if he thought they
should send the boys to speak with the Vicar.
The husband said, “We might as well. We
need to do something before I really lose my
temper!”
The Vicar agreed to speak with the boys, but
asked to see them individually. Johnny went
to meet with him first. The churchman sat the
boy down and asked him sternly, “Where is
God?”
Johnny made no response, so the clergyman
repeated the question in an even sterner tone,
“Where is God?”
Again Johnny made no attempt to answer,
so the clergyman raised his voice even more
and shook
his finger in
Johnny’s face,
“WHERE IS
GOD?”
At that Johnny
bolted from
the room and
ran directly
home slamming
himself
in his closet.
Billy followed him into the closet and said,
“What happened?”
Johnny replied, “We are in BIG trouble now
Billy. They can’t find God and they’re blaming
it on us!”
PRAYERS AT WEST WALL
A female BBC journalist heard about a very
old Jewish man who had been going to the
Western Wall in Jerusalem to pray, twice a day,
every day, for a long, long time.
So she went to check it out. She went to the
Western Wall and there he was, walking slowly
up to the holy site.
She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes,
when he turned to leave, using a cane
and moving very slowly, she approached him
for an interview.
‘Pardon me, sir, I’m Rebecca Smith from the
BBC. What’s your name?
‘Morris Fishbien,’ he replied.
‘Sir, how long have you been coming to the
Western Wall and praying?’
‘For about 60 years.’
‘60 years! That’s amazing! What do you pray
for?’
‘I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews
and the Muslims.’
‘I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to
stop. ‘
‘I pray for all our children to grow up safely
as responsible adults, and to love their fellow
man.’
‘How do you feel after doing this for 60
years?’
‘Like I’m talking to a bloody wall.’
TOMMY COOPER STYLE
1. Phone answering machine message -
“...If you want to buy marijuana, press the hash
key...”
2. A guy walks into the psychiatrist wearing only
Clingfilm for shorts. The shrink says, “Well, I
can clearly see you’re nuts.”
3. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the
other day but I couldn’t find any.

MATELOT
An ageing retired sailor decided to go back
to his old dockside pub to see if Big Gerty
was still on the game there.
He was surprised to see her sitting in the
corner, bought her a drink and went over.
They chatted for a while, then she invited
him to her home across the way.
They were soon in bed and the old matelot
was hammering away on top.
‘How am I doing Gerty’? he asked.
‘About three knots captain’, Gerty replied.
‘You’re knot hard, you’re knot in and you’re
knot going to get your bloody money back.
£5 MEAL TASTES GREAT!
In the never-never land between Christmas
and New Year I needed to escape the
confines of the home. After having spent
too long in the middle of Yeovil, I headed
up Hendford Hill feeling hungry.
Of course! Pop in to the Quicksilver for a
bite of lunch and something to quench the
thirst.
The Quicksilver has been running a £5
lunch menu for a while now. The usual
favourites are there but on this occasion it
was a beef casserole I ordered.
The food arrived quickly and the portion
on the plate was generous given the price.
In addition there was a bowl of vegetables
including boiled potatoes, broccoli and
carrots. All cooked long enough not be too
crunchy but still with some ‘bite’. Excellent!
As a quick lunch mid-week, it was ideal, the
drink was extra, but for around £7 in total I
had a thoroughly tasty and satisfying meal.
It has to be healthier than another burger
joint offering too!
Time is often tight on a lunch break but
you can phone ahead and pre-order meals
so that the waiting time is at an absolute
minimum.
AVALONIAN FREE STATE
CHOIR IN MARTOCK
The Avalonian Free State Choir have been
engaged to sing in All Saints Church, Martock at
7.30pm on Thursday 25th February. This 16-24
strong group of singers have given concerts in
Wells Cathedral every year since 2006 and will
also be singing there soon after the Martock date.
The choir was originally founded in 1992 to sing
traditional and contemporary English folk songs
and carols, but by 2004 they had widened both
their repertoire and the range of venues at which
they sing. They tailor their programme to suit each
venue and have become an integral and much
loved part of the music scene in Glastonbury
and the surrounding community, singing in
churches, halls & private homes at holidays,
festivals, weddings and seasonal celebrations.
They regularly sing at the “Celebration of Voice”
festival at Stourhead Gardens, where they have
been much praised, yet also sing for the WI and at
three Respite Homes in the area.
The Avalonian Free State Choir is an
unaccompanied “natural voice” choir with a
repertoire of songs from all around the World,
including the awe-inspiring stillness of sacred
and gospel songs from Greece & Georgia and
heartbreaking melodies from Bulgaria.
They performed regularly at Glastonbury Music
Festival until 2007 and have been on the Main
Stage three times. Michael Eavis, the organiser,
said in 2004: “The greatest thing about the
Avalonian Free State Choir is the way they
translate music into a joyful and almost theatrical
experience.”
Their CD “Long Live Life” is sold out and the
latest, covering their World Songs, will be released
shortly. Their earlier tapes are still available. The
choir has a reputation for its unique repertoire,
stunning tunes and high standard of a capella
singing, reminiscent of The Blagovest Ensemble.
Tickets £5 at the door or£4 in advance from
Valentine
Meals
It’s that time of year again when lovers reaffirm their feelings for each
other with gifts, tokens of love and a wonderful meal out. This year we
have a few suggestions for you if you have been wondering where to go.
The Quicksilver Mail on Hendford Hill in Yeovil is offering
Valentine meals on both Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February. Join
them on either Saturday 13th or Sunday 14th for a choice of:
5 Starters, 5 Mains and 5 Desserts for just 16.95 per person. In addition
every couple will receive a FREE bottle of wine to share. Make your booking
now by calling 01935 424721.
The Black Horse on the Avenue in Yeovil (very near the hospital)
will be hosting Valentine lunches on Sunday 14th. For a very modest
£19.99 for two people, you get a three course lunch and a bottle of wine.
The starter is a choice of prawns, pate or garlic bread. The main mail is a
choice of roast meats and the desert is a choice of raspberry pavlova or
chocolate gateaux. To make your meal booking call the Black Horse on
01935 422259.
If you are going your own way and plan to cook a meal at home, perhaps you
should keep in mind the list of the most effective aphrodisiac foods.
Chocolate: Naughty, sinful & the smell works on the emtional part of the brain.
Garlic: Dilates the blood vessels to energize the body, especially ‘those’ parts.
Safron: Is said by some to stimulate the erogenous zones!
Oysters: It worked for Casanova, what about you? Said to increase sex hormones!
Asparagus: Rich in vitamin E and associated with both fertility & sexual function
Ginger: This spicy root is said to increase sexual gratification.
Champagne: Casanova swore by its power to seduce women, perhaps it just
lowers inhibitions?

AROUND
THE ARTS
CENTRES
OK I’d like to to talk to you, yes you, who happens to be reading
this page of Suited and Booted. You see this page seems
to be the wet lettuce leaf of Suited and Booted. The not very
satisfying desert trolley after a fine meal.
Allow me to explain. This page generates close to zero reader
feedback. In eight years I think I have received just one email in
support of its content. It generates zero revenue, I see adverts
for theatre productions in other journals but not in this one.
In short, I am begining to question it’s continued existence. If you art loving,
theatre loving types want to see it continue then engage, communicate, spend
money, hassle, shout, scream at the Editor or otherwise show that you at least
have an interest in having these pages continue. You see there are other folk
who could be here and would spend money to be here.
If this humble Editor is doing a shit job of providing what you want, then say so.
If you have been dying to place an advert but didn’t know how, then say so.
A resounding silence will tell me that these pages should be put to other uses.
A deluge of letters and emails will at least let me know that someone out there
reads this section.
It’s your call. If other journals are covering your needs then this one will move
on. If you have advertising money to spend, then shout. If the loss of local theatre
news would be a mini-disaster then shout. Otherwise it will be game over;
these pages will be then used for other purposes.
Suited & Booted has provided a free platform for the promotion of the theatrical
and visual arts for eight years and it’s time to re-evaluate that position. In
a media market that is the most brutal and unforgiving in recent history, the
magazine has to ensure its own survival and match what it provides to what the
readers ask for.
Some will moan about the potentail loss of their free PR and still do nothing
about it. Some will say that this is a harsh view to take, but each and every
week there is a publican who would pay to be on these pages. There are bands
who would love to get their first “in print” break and I dare say there are painters
who would love to have a picture of their work shown right here.
Perhaps you have some cracking ideas about how these pages should be, in
which case get in touch. If, as I suspect, there is nothing more than a resounding
silence, a virtual tumbleweed of reply rolling across the dusty, empty plain,
then I will have had my answer, just as surely as if you had written it in block
capitals on parchment paper.
Over to you, I’m waiting to hear what you have to say. John The Editor
