The Austrian Research Centers Annual Report 2008 has been printed on paper certified according to the rules of the
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC imposes strict criteria on the management of forests in order to avoid
uncontrolled deforestation, infringements of human rights and environmental pollution.
As products with the FSC seal of approval may be subject to a number of trading and processing stages, paper processing
facilities such as printworks are also certified in accordance with FSC guidelines.

This document has been printed using carbon neutral methods. Records are kept of all CO2 emissions arising from
printing processes, and these are balanced by the purchase of valid emission reduction certificates from recognised cli-
mate projects. At present all the proceeds from carbon neutral printing are going to a project in Karnataka, India, where
agricultural waste that was previously incinerated is being used to generate electricity and heat.
