The Everlasting Book Launch Date: Mon 11th June 2012 Time: 9 PM Tickets: £5 / £3 Venue: Crescent Arts Centre Famous for Deep Probings which featured on Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime, Ian Macpherson brings the extraordinary story of Fiachra MacFiach, Ireland’s greatest and possibly only living genius. Ian Macpherson has spent 15 years editing legendary poet Fiachra MacFiach’s memoir, The Autobiography Of Ireland’s Greatest Living Genius. Macpherson reads from MacFiach’s memoir, and tries to divert the audience while they await the arrival of the famously reclusive author. But will he manage to hold their attention for an hour of high culture? Can he persuade someone to read MacFiach’s Heaneyesque poem about his mother’s plump plunger with the required gravitas? And will The Great Man arrive before Macpherson’s hour is up? { Poetry } Gerry Dawe and friends Date: Wed 13th June 2012 Time: 6 PM Tickets: FREE Venue: Crescent Arts Centre The publication of a poet’s Selected Poems is an opportunity for us to take stock of the length and depth of poetic achievement. In this event it is the delight of the Festival to welcome Gerald Dawe and friends to celebrate the writing and cultural importance of one of our best loved poets. Expect poetry, memory and laughter. Dawe’s early poems were published in the sixties and seventies in Britain and Ireland and first collected in Sheltering Places. Since then The Gallery Press has published his poetry: The Lundys Letter, Sunday School, Heart of Hearts, The Morning Train, Lake Geneva and Points West. Born in North Belfast in 1952, Gerald Dawe was a student of Orangefield Boys School, the University of Ulster and National University of Ireland, Galway where he also taught for many years. He was appointed lecturer in English at Trinity College Dublin in 1988, elected Fellow of the College in 2004 and is the inaugural director of the Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing at Trinity College. 13
