From the Library
I
t has been a pleasure to work with the
many seniors who have patronized the
BHS library this year! Best wishes to them
as they move on to new opportunities and
challenges. Special thanks to all of this year’s
library assistants: seniors Justin Watts, Jackie
Swyhart, Patrick McLaughlin, Kimberly
Gillespie, Cuillen Takach, Jennifer Buchanan,
Blake Johnson, Trey Lindsey, and juniors
Kayla Rose and Olyvia Brown-Coles. The
library would not be the same without their
help! They have shelved books, cleaned
tables, scanned nearly 14,000 books for
inventory, unboxed new equipment, clipped
current events from the newspapers,
maintained the newspaper racks, and helped
with the magazines.
Even as this school year comes to an
end, planning has begun for the 2011-2012
school year. The BHS library will once again
participate in the Virginia Choice Book
program. The nominated titles are highly
acclaimed books which will make for great
summer reading. Students can also gain a
head start toward reading the number of books
required to vote for Virginia’s Choice Book in
the spring of 2012. Titles include the following
that may be found at your local public library or
bookstore this summer:

There is still much to be done before
June 8 th , including getting those overdue
library books back to the library. If you have
library books out, please remember to return

them as soon as you can. If books cannot be
located, please see Mrs. Reynolds or Mrs.
Henson about payment.
Hope the summer is great fun for
everyone; students, parents, and teachers
alike, with many opportunities to relax with a
great book. Have fun and happy reading!!
BHS Cafeteria News
Starting Monday (May 16) students will
not be allowed to charge their lunch. We
have a large number of accounts that
are in the negative and this debt owed to the
cafeteria must be paid before school is out . If
you have a negative account, you will not be
allowed to get the lunch of your choice…you
will have to take a cheese sandwich and a cup
of fruit with their milk . The charge system was
set up for emergency purposes only and has
been greatly abused this year. This comes
from Central Office in Rustburg and must be
taken care of as soon as possible . Students
will not be allowed to buy extras until this is
taken care of. Thank you very much.
Basketball Camp
Brookville High School will hold Basketball
Camp beginning June 20 through June
24, 2011. The camp times will be 9 am
until 1 pm. Boys entering grades 1-10 in
August of 2011 will be eligible. Girls entering
grades 1-3 in August of 2011 will be eligible.
The cost is $85 per camper if paid in full by
June 1. Cost will be $95 if paid after June 1. A
$25 non-refundable deposit per camper must
accompany the registration form (available in
the main office or online at
www.bhsbees.com). To receive the $10
discount, the $60 balance must be received
by June 1. No deposit will be refunded after
the registration form has been accepted.
