PHYTONUTRIENT
SPECTRUM
Phytonutrients are natural, protective
substances found in plants that give
them their unique color. To get the full
range of health benefits associated with
phytonutrients, try to eat a rainbow of
color every day.
Divide fruits and vegetables into
five groups:
Red, Orange/Yellow, Green,
Blue/Purple, and White.
Eat at least one fruit or vegetable
from each color and go for variety.
Despite a certain popular saying,
eating more than just an apple a day –
try tomatoes, red peppers, strawberries,
pomegranates, or radishes – will provide
you with more health benefits.
Read on to discover which fruits,
vegetables, and plants contain
specific phytonutrients to support
your health needs. NUTRILITE is
proud that phytonutrients have been
a cornerstone of our nutritional
supplements for over 70 years.
Only the best phytonutrients go into NUTRILITE ® products
Because they are made from plant concentrates, NUTRILITE supplements contain a wide array
of phytonutrients, the natural nutrients in plants that are beneficial to human health, setting
Nutrilite apart from other makers of dietary supplements. While we believe you should eat whole
fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible, Nutrilite products fill in the gap between the fruits
and veggies you need and what you actually eat, with natural plant ingredients and the nutrition
that most people don’t get from their diet alone.
Because Nutrilite believes strongly in the power of phytonutrients and wants to use only the
best sources, many of the plant concentrates that go into NUTRILITE products come from our
own farms. In fact, NUTRILITE is the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest,
and process plants on their own certified organic farms, spread out over 6,400 acres in
California, Washington state, Mexico, and Brazil.
The best phytonutrients come from organic farms
Why go to the trouble and expense of farming organic? Plants produce phytonutrients as
a defense mechanism against pests and disease. When crops are sprayed with chemicals
that defend the plants, they don’t have to work as hard to produce phytonutrients and the
result is less nutritious produce. On the flip side, plants raised organically have abundant
amounts of higher-quality phytonutrients.
Owning and maintaining control over our own NUTRILITE farms, ensures that our supplements
contain high-quality ingredients. Our crops are grown in accordance with nature, based on the
following nine principles.
1. THE FARM IS AN ORGANISM
Nutrilite balances man-made and natural features and ensures that each farm has the right
number and proportion of crops, animals, and plants, so that each farm works as a selfsustaining,
living organism.
2. THE INTEGRATION AND DIVERSITY OF PLANTS AND ANIMALS
Nutrilite considers it crucial to have the right number and diversity of both the animals on the farm
and the people living on and contributing to the farm.

3. THE PRESERVATION OF HABITATS
NUTRILITE ® farms require the preservation of natural ecological areas – on the farms and along roads
and waterways – to sustain native plant and animal species, and to limit erosion and water contamination.
4. WIDE-BASED SOIL NUTRITION
Nutrilite replenishes the soil, rather than depleting it, by maintaining it with natural materials.
We grow cover crops specific to the nutritional needs of the soil at each farm and create compost
from manure from the farm’s livestock to further enrich the earth.
5. NO CONTAMINATION
Nutrilite avoids the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. We also use natural,
environmentally friendly methods to control weeds, insects, and other harmful predators.
6. SEED PRESERVATION
Nutrilite saves seeds as an environmentally sound practice and to support the economics of local
farmers who do not have to purchase new seed yearly.
7. TRACEABILITY
Nutrilite records every element ever added to or taken from the soil, to guarantee the quality
of the land and the plants grown on it. Traceability includes tracking crop rotations, to the kinds of
seeds used and when they were planted.
8. SOCIAL LIFE
Nutrilite views the farm as an organism in itself, and also sees the community surrounding the
farm as an extension of that organism. Nutrilite ensures that the farm will provide economic security
and sustainability for people in the community by providing adequate health-care benefits for farm
employees and education for the children in the area.
9. CONTINUAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
NUTRILITE farms are constantly researching new varieties and species of plants and the
technologies required to stay at the forefront of sustainable farming and nutritional products. A
commitment to continued research improves the botanicals that become NUTRILITE concentrates,
and increases the sustainability of NUTRILITE farms.
AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH FARM
California, USA
Our Agricultural Research Farm in Lakeview,
California, is the primary location where our
farm researchers work to improve existing
NUTRILITE ® products as well as identify
nutrients and active ingredients for new
products. Organic farming practices are also
developed and refined here.
Located on 111 acres that used to be a
prehistoric lake bed, the accumulated
nutrient-rich sediment contributes to the farm’s
fertile topsoil. By feeding the soil with compost
and by using carefully tested farming practices,
Nutrilite creates a better soil structure –
supplying crops with a vast array of nutrients.
PRIMARY CROPS
The Agricultural Research Farm produces pomegranates and rosemary, as well as many test crops.
As with all NUTRILITE farms, organic farming practices help to ensure that the phytonutrients in the
crops are at their uppermost protective levels. Below, you’ll see the primary phytonutrient each crop
is known for, as well as the health benefits they provide.
