Over 160 decorated squares were returned. With the help of several quilting stores and numerous volunteers, three quilts have been assembled and two additional quilts are due to be completed. Each quilt square was accompanied by a short profile about the person on it. In many cases, the squares and notes were touching memorials to children who have passed away. Each story is unique and poignant. We wish to express our deep gratitude to the families who created squares. Dear Families, Ronald McDonald House at Stanford celebrates its 30th anniversary this year by recognizing the heroes that stand among us everyday— normal people facing daunting or impossible circumstances with great strength and bravery. We find our heroes in many forms: the munchkins battling life-threatening illnesses, the families supporting one another, the volunteers giving their time, and the donors funding the programs. But there’s another group, so integral to our mission, yet they often go unnoticed: the doctors, nurses and social workers at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. The administration and staff of the hospital played a key role in founding Ronald McDonald House at Stanford in 1979, and they have been an important part of its development ever since. We want to thank all of the sponsors, volunteers and people who donated food. Especially we want to thank the staff in this house for their kindness and helpfulness. This house has given us the opportunity to have a good night sleep, relaxation after a bad day, and the great opportunity to meet parents that are going through the same thing and even worse, which has helped us be grateful for what we have. Finally we want to thank you for all the great programs that this house offers, especially the massage. This house really made a difference in our lives. God bless you all! Joel and Monica From the Desk oF honey meir-Levi, executive Director mission was to coordinate with the social services provided by the hospital. Today, our Accommodations office works closely with the social workers to place the families in housing, ensuring that families’ needs and individual situations are addressed. The hospital has also largely impacted the growth of the House both with its physical expansion and also with its scientific achievements. As the doctors develop new medicine and advanced techniques, they are able to treat more children. Because the children are so sick, treatment takes much longer, leading to longer stays. The House provides supportive programs that complement the medical services provided by the hospital. Working together with our colleagues at LPCH, we offer families the best possible means to care for their sick child. Dear Ronald McDonald House staff, I traveled to Palo Alto alone to bring my youngest daughter to LPCH for a procedure and I felt so grateful for a close, safe place to stay. The House is truly an amazing resource for families traveling from afar. I really appreciated the complimentary dinner…and the friendliness of the staff. Bless you!
