Dear Friends, Thanks to you, hope was just around the corner for many of your neighbors in 2011. Hope was in Claire’s grasp, who was struggling to make ends meet with the recent death of her sister and the addition of her niece into her home. And hope was found at the home of John, who felt like he had nowhere to turn, until someone told him about MOM. Now, with financial assistance and a new job, he and his daughter feel secure about the future. Hope can be found every day at MOM. It is at the Food Pantry when people fill up their bags with fresh produce from the MOM garden so they can make their children a healthy meal. It is there when a volunteer smiles at a client and offers to help him find a new coat or when a senior is picked up and taken to the grocery store, an everyday necessity made easier for a tired body. Because of you, hope is within the reach of more than 3,000 of your neighbors who rely on MOM to make it through each month. Your generosity is what brings hope to the lives of people like Claire and John. It’s the generosity of the girl who used her pet sitting money to make a donation for a family in need and it's the joy of the gentleman who throws all of his change in a jar and then delivers it to the MOM office every December – it’s people like you who are changing the lives of people in this community. This coming year will be an exciting and important one for MOM. The needs in the West Madison and <strong>Middleton</strong> communities have grown, and MOM's efforts to end hunger and prevent homelessness has expanded to include innovative and progressive programs to meet these needs. Having two separate facilities for our office and distribution center decreases the synergy needed to manage our robust programs and creates barriers to clients. For these reasons, we will continue our search for a new facility in 2012. We are also excited for a new director to lead this upward moving organization. MOM’s Board of Directors and exceptional staff are stronger than ever and together with all of you, we are ready to make 2012 the best year yet. If we continue to come together to help our neighbors and our community, we can prevent homelessness and end hunger – and bring hope - right here. MOM was a big part of Tahkaney’s life as she was growing up. Her mother, single and disabled, budgeted and saved. Even so, she had to rely on MOM when emergencies arose or when cupboards were bare at the end of the month. Each fall when Tahkaney received school supplies from MOM, she thought about her caring neighbors and community. Their support not only helped her hardworking family, it motivated her to do her best at school. Tahkaney believes this support helped her achieve her dream. She received a full scholarship to Stanford University, where she is currently enjoying her freshman year. Community support turned this family's fear into hope and plans for a better future.
