New collections, new designers and new
initiatives ensure London maintains its reputation
as a fashion leader
The provisional schedule for September’s
London Fashion Week has been
announced, with a host of new names to
watch out for during spring/summer 2013.
With a reputation as a career-making
world platform, London continues to build
its international credibility as a venue for
fledgling designers to make their mark on
the fashion industry, as well as being the
home of classic heritage brands such as
Burberry Prorsum, Mulberry, Paul Smith
and Pringle of Scotland.
The NEWGEN initiative offers catwalk
designers financial support towards their
show costs, as well as the opportunity to
use the BFC Catwalk Show Space during
LFW. Other recipients will be allowed a
sponsored presentation or exhibition space
to showcase their collections, offering these
emerging UK-based designers an important
introduction to influential press and buyers
from around the world. NEWGEN also
provides business and mentoring support
through the BFC, in partnership with
Shoosmiths, Baker Tilley and Lloyds TSB.
Newcomers to the scheme include
Portuguese design duo, Marques Almeida,
who champion a relaxed, deconstructed
and effortless aesthetic; Lim Cooper,
exhibition recipient, whose pieces are
beautifully created and artfully designed
using traditional craftsmanship fused with
modern materials, and Cordwainers’ shoe
designer Sophia Webster.
Knitwear designers Sister by Sibling will
receive NEWGEN sponsorship for the
second time, giving a presentation alongside
innovative, ethical designer Christopher
Raeburn and minimalist ready to wear
designer JJS Lee. Brazilian born Lucas
Nascimento will show his spring/summer
2013 collection in his first presentation,
after progressing from exhibition
sponsorship last season.
Also receiving presentation support for
his vibrant signature designs for the third
season is milliner Nasir Mazhar. Exhibition

designers Palmer//Harding and second
time recipient Huishan Zhang, who finds
inspiration mixing his national Eastern
heritage with Western influences.
Simone Rocha; Michael van der Ham
and J.W. Anderson will all return with
catwalk sponsorship with their collections
now receiving critical acclaim from press
and buyers around the world.
This season will also see the spotlight
fall on jewellery, as the BFC has just
announced the Rock Vault Dozen, a new
collaboration that will see 12 jewellers
each invited to design a ring created from
up to an ounce of the precious metal,
palladium. These rings will be showcased
in a dedicated exhibit sponsored by
the International Palladium Board and
curated by Stephen Webster, during LFW,
September 2012.
The designer brands selected to take
part in this unique showcase are Alexandra
Jefford, Fernando Jorge, Hannah Martin,
Hillier, Husam El Odeh, Imogen Belfield,
Jo Hayes Ward, Jordan Askill, Melanie
Georgacopoulos, Sophie Bille Brahe,
Tomasz Donocik and Yunus and Eliza.

businesses and increase exposure amongst
UK and international media and retailers. It
was launched at LFW in February, 2012.

incentive illustrating how this extraordinary
platform for emerging, British-based
jewellery talent can embrace and
collaborate with the ever-changing
economics of the industry. Palladium, an
ancient metal with newly acquired precious
status, therefore new to many, is introduced
to the consumer through the creative
genius of the designers within Rock Vault.
The BFC, the panel and the International
Palladium Board are very excited by the
exceptional level of creativity generated
by the RVD and look forward to the
unveiling during the upcoming London
Fashion Week.”
The International Palladium Board is
also working with Jordan Askill, Fernando
Jorge and Hannah Martin who will create
capsule collections made from palladium.
Their collections will showcase its lightness
and strength, resulting in uniquely crafted
jewellery pieces for spring/summer 2013.
