the third year for what has become a widely favored event with something for everyone.
This four day adventure for the benefit of Hospice of San Luis Obispo County began with a
Thursday morning breakfast at the Commons in Calabasas followed by a back road run to
Avila Beach. A mid afternoon arrival in Avila allowed plenty of time to prepare for the
Opening Night festivities.
The historic Fremont Theater in downtown San Luis Obispo offered a perfect venue for tasting
the signature dishes offered by a selection of local restaurants paired with special wines
from the region. Participants were offered Rock Star parking on the specially closed boulevard
fronting the theater. Adding to the excitement, the Autogallery eighteen wheel truck
and trailer race team support vehicle was situated immediately across from the theater
where it was strategically surrounded with the latest Ferrari, Maserati and Porsche offerings.
Friday opened with another Wesley Hatakeyama orchestrated European-styled Timed Rally
through the unmatched back roads unique to the area. Participants were welcomed to a
lunch stop in Parkfield, a settlement of 18 at the apex of the San Andreas Fault that has
come to be known as the “Earthquake Capital of California.” Following a carefully timed
lunch recess, the rally continued to its completion in Paso Robles where, once again,
the parking surrounded the city’s central park was reserved for the exclusive use of the
competitors.
The 22 square mile Santa Margarita Ranch was host to the Friday evening dinner where a
buffet was served within the California Mission located in the center of the Ranch. Dinner
was followed by music and dancing for the enjoyment of all.
