Whatever happens at Doncaster, if Camelot’s sire Montjeu had managed more runners – he is 90 adrift of the leader – a posthumous title might well have been on the cards. Montjeu this year is something of a one-hit wonder, with just four stakes winners in total and earnings minus his standard-bearer of less than £1.2 million. In contrast Galileo’s 15 stakes winners include eight in Group 1 company. Great Heavens in the Irish Oaks was the latest addition to that list. Juddmonte’s pair Dansili and Oasis Dream are doing well as usual, with the former’s fillies Fallen For You, Giofra and The Fugue giving him a tremendous boost among an excellent 12 stakes winners, one ahead of Oasis Dream. Remarkably, though, they are still behind Invincible Spirit in earnings, since his team led by Mayson continues to exceed expectations. The other sires with good numbers of stakes winners are Monsun on 12 (his lack of runners never helps him soar in this table), Oratorio and Dubawi on eight and Danehill Dancer plus Big Shuffle on six. Clubs takes over as New Approach falls New Approach has not added to his tally lately and drops from first to sixth, but with three stakes winners he is still joint-leader in that department with Bahamian Bounty. The leader, Red Clubs, has had two but none of the others has managed more than one. Overall Red Clubs, who died last year, has had 15 winners, the same as Kheleyf and Acclamation and from a similar number of runners – their respective totals are 41, 45 and 39. Red Clubs owes his position at the head of the table principally to Vedelago, Ceiling Kitty and Sky Lantern, who have notched more than £162,343 between them.
