Golf anyone?? Tennis
may be tough for me. There I was,
playing Friday Night Doubles with
Maggie Hanes, when I missed the
game point shot. One ambulance
ride, nine hours and 30+ stitches
later I was back home. Thanks
to everyone for all the calls and
emails. I’m doing well, just not so
good looking.
For all you golfers, the club has lost almost 400
of the green golf towels. That is almost $1,000 in cost.
I admit I was guilty as well, I am sure they are in golf
bags or in the back of cars (that’s where mine was!) Golf
Amnesty Program: Please return any green golf towels
you do have, no questions asked. And no, you don’t have
to wash or iron them.
Friendly Fridays on the Porch has been a major
success with its Kids Club activities, buffet dining and
music under the pavilion. If you have missed it, come out
and join us. We are averaging about 225 members per
night. The more the merrier! We
also have hired a new Activities
Director, Leea Murphy to help
organize CHCC’s kids programs.
She is very energetic, friendly
and will be a great fit to our
CHCC family.
The 8th Annual Swim
for Smiles was a major success,
and although parking is always a challenge we need to
remember 380 of “our kids” participated with the proceeds
from this event going to the UNC children’s Hospital.
While there are winners for each age group, the big
winner is the hospital.
To date, Swim for Smiles
has raised more that
$200,000 for the North
Carolina Children’s
Hospital.

Fishing Tournament
started cold and damp,
The Club is now offering ACH processing to
pay your monthly bill. Make paying your bill
as simple as 1-2-3. Simply bring a canceled
check to the office and we will do the rest.

President’s Message
but things quickly heated up as soon as the fish began
biting. The big
winner of the day
was Neil Harrell’s 3
year old grandson,
Brooks. His first
fish was a scary 5-12
pound catfish (Dad,
Jonathan helped a
little) His second
whopper nearly
pulled him into the
water. A 3 pound
bass struck while he
was walking along the edge. Brooks had the most fun
playing with all of the worms. Oh yeah, and Neil, the
Granddad, didn’t catch anything at all.
If you play golf you know the golf course is in
great condition. Craig and his crew are addressing long
term problems and even doing some nice to-do projects
to improve aesthetics. Last Week they had a state
agronomist in to test soil conditions. Things are good
and I expect them to get better. One way you can help is
if you drive a cart, use the divot mixture and fill in your
divots and one extra. The same thing goes for everyone
with regard to ball marks; fix your mark, plus one more.
Congratulations to Jeff Jamison for shooting a 63,
nine birdies and no bogies, during the recent Member-
Member Tournament.
The Membership Drive continues to bring in new
members, 30 to date, against our annual goal of 60. Keep
it up! New members are the key to our financial health.
I’m sometimes asked: why 60 new members The answer
is 60 new members this year will enable us to meet all our
operating, mortgage and capital investment needs.
Lastly, if you haven’t met our new Chef Jimmy
Reales, introduce yourself and dine on one of his
specialties. Jimmy was the Chef at the Carolina Inn
Crossroads Restaurant. His cooking earned him two trips
to the prestigious James Beared House in New York City.
Jimmy and wife Leigh have two children - son, Conner
and daughter Caroline. I expect we will soon become a
destination dining experience.
