officers from administration and 

accounts section were present in 

the meeting. Dr. Alok Kumar 

ensured to support all co-workers 

in the Council. 

Dr. Alok Kumar has 

contributed over 30 years of his 

life to Homeopathy. He graduated 

in Science from Punjab University 

and obtained Diploma in 

Homeopathy from Board of 

Homeopathic System of Medicine, 

New Delhi He did MD (Hom.) 

from Dr. Baba Ambedkar 

Marathwada University, 

Aurangabad, Maharashtra. 

He started working with the 

Council in 1980 as a Research 

Assistant and later as Asstt. 

Research Officer till 1988. He has 

served as Medical Officer In-

Health Scheme (CGHS) (1988-92)

(1992-99). 

There after, he was designated 

as Assistant Advisor (Homeopathy) 

from 1999-2001 and as Dy. 

Advisor (Homeopathy) (2001-06) 

& (2008- till date), He is Member 

Secretary, Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia 

Committee. He is at 

present Member-Secretary of 

Scientific Advisory Committee 

(SAC), a member of special 

Committee for Homoeopathic 

Pathogenetic Trial (Drug Proving), 

CCRH and Member secretary, Subcommittee 

Drug Technical 

Advisory Board (DTAB) on 

Homoeopathy. 

Dr. Alok Kumar visited USA 

and UK as WHO fellow in 1995, to 

attend the training conducted at 

New England School of Homoeopathy 

(NESH), USA and Royal 

London Hospital for Integrated 

Medicine (RLHIM), London, UK. 

As an enthusiastic homoeopath, 

Council hopes a thriving 

growth under his leadership and 

thus a drastic development in the 

pathway of this science.

behalf of the Council, Dr. Anil 

Khurana, Asstt. Director (H) welcomed 

all the guests and staff of 

the Council and briefed about achievements 

of the Council in the 

tenure of Prof. Nayak. The speakers 

on the dias recollected the 

motivational spirit they got while 

they were working with him. They 

remembered the new steps initiation 

by him for the improvisation 

and growth of the Council 

in his tenure. 

The untiring efforts of Prof. C. 

Nayak in the development of the 

Council saw the fruits in the form 

of publications which were released

Workshop on Online Portal for Knowledge Management 

in Homoeopathic Libraries 

Aworkshop on ‘Development of 

Online Portal for Knowledge 

Management in the Homoeopathic 

Libraries in India’ was organised by 

CCRH at AYUSH Auditorium, New 

Delhi on 20th and 21st Jan.’11. The 

Chief Guest of the workshop was Dr. 

Diwan Harish Chand, Chairman, 


(SAC), CCRH. The other dignitaries 

who graced the inaugural session 

included Dr. Lalit Verma, Secretary,

The new CCRH publication- 

‘Standardization of Homoeopathic 

Drugs, Volume-4’ was released on 

this occasion by Dr. Diwan Harish 

Chand. The inaugural session 

concluded with vote of thanks by 

Sh. M.S.P. Panicker. Dr. Ritika 

Hasija, Communication Consultant, 

CCRH headquarters anchored the 

whole workshop in a poised 

manner. About 30 Library 

professionals from different

The first technical session was 

on ‘Traditional Knowledge: 

Collection, Preservation, 

Protection and Access’ presented 

by Dr. H.K. Kaul. He emphasized 

on coordination with international 

and national bodies for 

strengthening the protection and 

access of traditional knowledge. 

The second technical session was 

on ‘D-Space – Building of Digital 

Libraries using Open Source 

Software’ delivered by Dr. 

Surender Kumar, Sr. Technical 

Director, NIC. The overview of 

digital library, its features, 

importance, available software and

selection of software were 

discussed. during this session. 

The third session was on 

‘Library Automation and Radio 

Frequency Identifier (RFID)’. The 

session was moderated by Sh. 

Sanjeev Mehta from RS barcoders. 

He explained RFID, its importance, 

its importance the work 

mechanisms the benefits to 

members and users, the equipments 

required and total expenditure 

in terms of time and money. 

The next two sessions were purely 

tutorials, based on ‘KOHA: Open 

Source Library Management 

Software’. These sessions were 

moderated by Dr. Sangeeta Kaul, 

Manager, DELNET. She described 

briefly about criteria for evaluating 

the open source software, its benefits, 

various requirements and all 

the modules of KOHA open source 

software to make the participants 

aware about the functioning of 

software.The Sixth session was on 

‘E-Learning and E-Resources’ and 

it was conducted by Dr. Subhash 

Deshmukh, Univer-sity Librarian,

CCRH Headquarters and mutual

a new gateway towards proposals

Campa Huergo presented her work 

on Vaccine research as well as 

work related to use of homoeopathic 

nosodes prepared from 

circulating microorganisms on 

Leptospirosis, Chikungunya, 

Influenza and Viral hepatitis a 

during epidemics. From the

Experts suggested a scientific 

study (through laboratory/animal 

model) should be designed to 

understand the outcome of 

immune-modulatory effects of 

homoeopathic medicines. Keeping 

in view prophylactic studies 

carried out during epidemics using 

homoeopathic medicines including 

nosodes, Dr. Naveen Kumar Gupta 

of NCDC agreed to provide killed 

viruses causing influenza like 

illness for preparation of 

homoeopathic nosodes.

Dr. Campa also visited Central 

Research Institute (H), NOIDA 

and two Homoeo-pathic Medical 

Colleges located in Delhi. She also 

met Dr. Rakesh Sarwal, Joint 

Secretary, Dept. of AYUSH and 

showed interest in mutual 

exchange of information on 

development of Homoeopathy in 

both the countries.

Medicine for Kala-azar’ at

the patients and approved to 

conduct a preventive study on 

Kala-azar in two phases - the 

first phase in-vitro study on

CCRH headquarters were also 

present. After discussions on 

various agenda items the following 

resolutions were taken: 

� The monographs on the 

following 12 homoeopathic 

drug monographs namely, 

Cactus grandiflorus, Clerodendron 

infortunatum, Coleus 

aromaticus, Eucalyptus 

globulus, Ficus religiosa, 

Lappa major, Lavandula 

angustifolia, Leonurus cardiaca, 

Momordica charantia, 

Nyctanthes arbortristis, 

Sanguinaria canadensis and 

Tribulus terrestris, which were 

corrected after discussion in 

the 97 th meeting of HPC, 

were approved by the 

Committee. 

� A sub-committee was 

constituted to revise the 

document related to vernacular 

names of homoeopathic 

medicinal plants incorporated 

in various volumes of Homoeopathic 

Pharmacopoeia of India 

(HPI). CCRH will co-ordinate 

the meeting(s) of the subcommittee. 

� As proposed in the previous 

meeting of HPC, the monographs 

in volumes 6-9 and 101 

desired that these books 

should be published immediately 

and steps should be taken to 

make these was lable for use of 

practitioners and students. 

The meeting ended with vote of 

thanks to the chair.

New Delhi 

monographs proposed for Vol- 

10 of HPI, were compiled in a 

consolidated Volume and 

placed before the Committee 

by Director, HPL. He 

requested that this work 

should be reveiwed by some 

experts for making necessary 

corrections. The Committee 

recommended names of eight 

experts and asked HPL to 

convene the meeting(s) of the 

experts and submit the final 

draft of the consolidated 

volume along with editorial 

part. The Chairman of the 

committee expressed that in 

same manner HPI Volumes 1 

to 5 should also be consolidated 

as these Volumes 

contain commonly used 

homoeopathic drugs. 

� During the discussion about 

further improvement of the 

Homoeopathic codex in the 

Committee, HPL informed that 

One Consultant of Botany and 

one Data Entry Operator have 

been appointed for six months 

to assist in the revision of the 

Homoeopathic Codex. The 

committee recommended that 

references of drug proving 

report/homoeopathic materia 

medica may be given in

‘History and Authority’ portion 

of Monographs instead of 

collecting references from 

other Pharmacopoeias in draft 

monograph by HPL. Dr. Diwan 

Harish Chand suggested was 

for ‘History and Authority’ part 

of Monograph Bradford’s 

‘Index to Homoeopathic 

Provings’ should be consulted 

and for further references 

‘Drugs of Hindoostan’ and 

‘Vegetable drugs of India’ may 

also be consulted. 

� The Federation of Homoeopathic 

Manufacturers of India 

(FOHMI) informed that for 

making tablets (bio-chemic 

and trituration) the ash 

content may be limited to 0.5% 

in case of the tablets 

containing potency above 3x 

and 1% in case of potency 

below 3x. The Committee 

recommended to restrict ash 

content to 1% irrespective of 

potency below or above 3x . 

� The Committee suggested 

some minor correction on 14 

Monographs of Homoeopathic 

drugs namely, Azadirachta 

indica, Brassica oleracea, 

Capsicum annuum, Chelido- 

Central Council for Research in 

Homoeopathy (CCRH) conducted 

a meeting of the Project 

Evaluation Committee (PEC) for 

considering projects of Extra Mural 

Research related to Homoeopathy 

on 20th Jan.’11 at CCRH 

headquarters. The meeting was 

chaired by Dr. Diwan Harish Chand.

work on 35 drugs and on 10 

drugs in the year 2011-2012 

will be done by CCRH. 

Chairman advised the 

Committee that while preparing 

Monographs, preference 

should be given to 

most commonly used medicines 

by the professionals.

Recent study conducted on 

drugs prepared from six metals 

namely Gold (Aurum metallicum), 

Copper (Cuprum metallicum), Tin 

(Stanum metallicum), Zinc 

(Zincum metallicum), Silver 

(Argentum metallicum) and 

Platinum (Platinum metallicum) 

in 6c, 30c and 200c potencies 

(dilution factors 1012 , 1060 and 

10400 ) revealed the presence of 

their Nanoparticle. The characterization 

(finding out form and 

size) is done with the help of 

Transmission Electron Microscopy 

(TEM), Selected Area Electron 

Diffraction (SAED) and presence of 

starting materials in dilutions by 

Inductively Coupled Plasma- 

Atomic Emission Spectroscopy 

(ICP-AES) of the samples. 

Homeopathic medicines from 

two leading drug manufacturers in 

India were taken for a comparative 

study. At a time 30-35 ml of 

dilution was evaporated in a round 

bottomed flask till the entire 

volume (2000 ml) was evaporated 

and then the residue was 

solubilized and filtered and 

samples were analyzed. 

The potencies of these metals 

were analyzed by TEM and the 

photomicrographs show that due 

to extreme dilution either single 

nanoparticle or their aggregate is 

seen. From SAED patterns, it was 

confirmed that the crystalline 

species of starting materials in the 

dilutions such as 30c, 200c were 

present. ICP-AES patterns of 

noble metals like Copper (Cuprum 

met) gave amazing results by 

showing the evidences of starting 

metals for all potencies (6c, 30c, 

and 200c) after concentration of 

the solutions, higher quantity in 6c 

( 500-2500 pg/ml) and lower in 

30c and 200c potency (10-40 pg/ 

ml). 

During analysis, plateauing 

effect of the concentrations of 

starting metals was observed in 

different dilutions. It was also 

confirmed that the concentration 

reached a plateau at 6c potency and 

beyond. In this pattern the 

researchers found variations in the 

concentration between the metals 

and dissimilarities in the samples 

taken from different manufacturers. 

Moreover, it was found that 

there were no major difference in the 

nature of the particle of starting 

metals and absolute concentrations. 

Eventhough, many hypothesis 

were postulated to justify the 

authenticity of homeopathic drugs, 

this experiment by Indian Institute 

of Technology, Mumba is a step 

forward in direction which may go 

a long way in understanding the 

concept of dilutions and 

dynamization.

Chronic primary insomnia: Efficiency of homeopathic similimum

Chronic primary insomnia is a 

condition where there is 

difficulty in getting, maintaining or 

restoring sleep for at least one 

month and this can create 

significant distress in different 

areas of life. The efficacy of 

homeopathic similimum for this 

condition has been tested among 

30 participants in this research (14 

under treatment group and 16 

under placebo group). The criteria 

for insomnia were selected in 

accordance with the indications in 

DSM-IV TR (2000). The ‘Sleep 

Diary (SD)’ and ‘Sleep Impairment 

Index (SII)’ were used to measure 

the quantity as well as quality of 

sleep. After evaluating patient’s 

physical, emotional and mental 

characteristics the cases were 

analyzed with the help of ‘Radar 9’ 

software. Lachesis muta, Nux 

vomica, Medorrihnum, Sepia 

officinalis, Lycopodium clavatum 

and Carcinosin were found to be 

frequently indicated medicines 

with potencies ranging from 30 CH 

to 10M. After first consultation 

patients were encouraged to write 

sleep diary (SD). Two follow ups at 

an interval of 2 weeks after the 

initial consultation were recommended. 

From statistical analysis

it was revealed that there was 

significant change in duration of 

sleep in treatment group, when 

compared with placebo treatment 

which has shown no improvement 

at all. As Homeopathy has been 

proven as one of the treatment 

modality, further researches 

can be carried out for treatment 

of Sleep disorders for its validation.
