June 2012 Board meeting
Minutes from the May 30 th work session
were read and accepted.
Pam indicated that the minutes from
last month’s board minutes had Pam
helping Jami on a project but that was
not the case. The minutes were then
accepted with correction.
Next board meeting is July 11 th , 2012
at 7p.
There had been several questions
about the by-laws at the general meeting
in May. The by-laws were checked
to make sure that all of the changes had
been made. There was a question still
about ‘responsible for recommending
all major financial decisions” and what
‘major’ would be. Should it be a percentage
or an amount? Felt that anything
over around $200 would be acceptable.
If approval is needed for
smaller amounts then it could delay
financial decisions until the next general
meeting.

Sandy Biggs said that she will take over
as gift shop manager. She will start July
1 st and work 25 hours a week. We would
love to be able to keep Steve but at this
time it isn’t feasible.
Ed Parker wants a business plan and a
financial plan sent to him. The information
that we have will be gathered up and
sent. No one is sure what goes into a business
plan and we will get in touch with
outside help to find out. Maybe Rogue
Federal has someone who could help or the
Small Business Admin. In August we will
get together to find out what we have and
what we need.
The treasurer’s report was next. We
made a profit at the show of $5854. A
budget has been written up and a MOTION
was made to accept the budget. It passed.
The museum cases are getting a reorganization
and a clean-up.
Some of the committee chairs, the gift
shop manager and the work shop manager
need to start giving reports. They will be
told.
The new business dealt with the back
yard design. Money is needed for some
building items, such as rebar, and a lot of

June, 2012 general meeting
Minutes from the Chipper were accepted.
We had 4 new members present. A big
welcome to you all.
The 50/50 drawing was $25. There were
lots of goodies to give out for the door
prize. Thanks to Ken, Harold and Jason
for supplying the items. The membership
drawing had no winner so next time it will
be $20.
The treasurer’s report was next. The
total for the show was $14,524, expenses
were $8670 which left $5854 for a profit.
A big thank-you went out to Tricia as the
show chair and to Jason as the co-chair.
This year was especially trying since the
show had to be held in a brand new loca-
tion. They did a wonderful job. A plaque
was given out to Tricia and a gift certificate
was given to both in appreciation for
their hard work.
The board has hired Sandy Biggs as gift
shop manager. She introduced herself to
those who haven’t been in the gift shop to
see her working.
Bunny Riley and Jack Moratto have been
working on the back yard project. They
need lots of physical help in clearing it
out. They had brought the plan design of
what they would like to see happen back
there.
The sunshine report was next. Shirley
Oswald and Connie Silver both had surgery
and were doing well. Our hope is for
a very speedy recovery.
June 30 th is a field trip to hunt for agates.
Eric Lindquist will lead the group. Meet
at the museum at 9am. You will be traveling
down to the Iron Gate area of Cali-
cleanup is required. The design will be
brought to the general meeting.
Charles Lane and Charles Rogers are
leading a group of volunteer students to do
work at the museum.
There was a suggestion of murals for
some of the walls. If we could get someone
to volunteer to do it then it would be
an option, otherwise no money will go into
it now.
LED lights are to be installed in the cases
but sizes are needed before they can be
purchased.
The funding for the ultraviolet rock and
mineral lab is still in the process. Charles
Rogers hasn’t been able to get into the
website to check it out so he will probably
make a trip to see them.
It would be nice if we could start geology
lectures at the museum that are separate
from the talks and presentations that we
have at the meetings. We could charge a
small fee and maybe make some money.
There were a couple of individuals who
might be willing to come out and talk.

The next Kids day will be for Father’s
Day and they will be working with
shark’s teeth. Kids Day has been a very
popular event. Thank you, Karen.
The changes in the bylaws that were
discussed at the last general meeting had
been made. The new bylaws were presented
to the membership present at the
general meeting. A MOTION was made
to approve the bylaws and 2 nd . It passed.
The back yard project needs to be approved
since the membership now has to
approve any larger expenditures, via the
bylaws. So comments and suggestions
are needed. There is a church group who
would like to do a community project and
will do some of the cleanup. The wood
that is in the back can go to biomass and
Ray Hines will take it. The new backyard
proposal shows an outdoor classroom,
benches, shady areas, storage bins, etc.
