Dear friends and colleagues,
Vienna has the pleasure to host the 8th Congress of the European Laryngological
Society from September 1 to 4, 2010.
Laryngology deals with a wide variety of health disorders, particularly with
inflammatory and neoplastic disease, with disorders of voice, breathing and
deglutition, and with neurological disorders affecting the larynx.
It was our aim to bring together laryngologists from all parts of Europe and beyond,
dealing with all of the different aspects of laryngeal disease, and to gather for a
fruitful clinical and scientific exchange.
From the program, it is obvious that the main focus of our meeting is on
neurolaryngology, oncology, and phonosurgery. However, other relevant topics,
including presbylaryngology, laryngeal angioedema, and the impact of modern
technologies on the practice of Laryngology will also be covered. We have chosen to
include more round tables into the program to stimulate a lively discussion.
In the past, many important innovations in the field of laryngology were first
performed and described in Vienna. Therefore, the city of Vienna has a long and
important relation with laryngology, and certainly ranks among the top European
capitals related to Laryngology. On Saturday morning, a guided tour will take all those
interested in the history of Laryngology to some of the important sites in Vienna.
Nowadays, Vienna is a modern cosmopolitan city at the junction between the western
and the eastern parts of Europe, with a rich cultural and historical tradition. Vienna
General Hospital, serving as the academic hospital for Vienna Medical University, is
among the largest and most important academic hospitals in Europe. It will host our
congress.
We look forward to welcome you all in Vienna and we hope to succeed in making this
congress a successful and stimulating event, both scientifically and socially.
