Selby & Village Deep - Joburg

Selby & Booysens: Selby and Booysens exhibit many of the same characteristics of the
Benrose area, but with more diversity in terms of building type/height, and conditions. There is
not yet the level of organization to address management issues. There is a need to develop a
more specific redevelopment or regeneration plan at the sub-area level that identifies specific
redevelopment districts, sites, infrastructure needs, and marketing or recruitment strategies.
Unlike the areas to the east of the CBD, Selby, Booysens and other areas along the M2 have
a number of large plants, as well as smaller commercial-oriented and industrial service
facilities like panel beaters. There is a need to examine the “edges” of Booysens that lie
adjacent to dumps and residential neighbourhoods to the south.
