Community Services Division
The Community Services Division provides training
in home security, personal safety, bank robbery
awareness, telemarketing fraud, scams, con games,
and other crime prevention and awareness topics.
This endeavor is furthered by a partnership with service
clubs, Neighborhood Watch groups, and special
presentations for senior citizens.
The Community Services Division is responsible for
the enforcement of violations of the Police Powers
section of the City Code of Ordinances. The areas
of concern involve health, safety, and welfare of the
community. Many of these code enforcement issues
have a direct correlation with crime prevention.
The Community Services Division continues to air a
series of 30-second television Public Service announcements
(PSAs) on Crime Prevention information
and awareness topics. Comcast Digital Cable
and WWCI TV 10 provide production of these announcements.
Additionally, radio crime prevention
PSAs produced at local radio station WGYL are
aired on all area radio stations.
The Community Services Division represents the
department in many other organizations within the
community. These organizations include, the United
Way of Indian River County, the Community Services
Council, the Samaritan Center of Indian River
County and the local Crime Prevention Association.
The Community Services Division is also responsible
for the Citizen Volunteer Program. During the
year 2011 citizen volunteers donated 500 hours of
their time to assist the department with various duties
and programs.
