Letter from the Director:
“I am, but I can.” It’s a new year and
time for new outlooks, new initiatives
and new experiences - based on the
notion that you are great now but can
be an even better “me” this year and
going forward. Annapolis Recreation
and Parks has embarked a year-long
commitment to the community
following an “I am, but I can.”
statement. You are great now, but you
can be even better. We ALL can be
better!
This winter, we encourage you to review your health plan. Do
you need to tweak your fitness routine - add more cardio or
adjust your strength training? What about nutrition? Maybe
you want to eat better overall, instead of going on what can
become a rollercoaster dieting habit?
The New Year greets us with a traditional focus to follow a
healthy lifestyle - one for you and for your family. Let Annapolis
Recreation and Parks help you with physical activity this winter
and become a member (or renew your membership) at the
“Pip” Moyer Recreation Center. We have many options for all
ages and abilities!
Maybe you don’t see what you’re looking for? Please e-mail me
your feedback and suggestions to BJWoodward@annapolis.
gov. We are always looking for new ways to help support your
health, fitness and recreation goals.
I hope you can join us for our annual Open House on Sunday,
January 6th . As proven in years past, it will be a fun event
featuring special discounts for new memberships!
Cheers to Healthy Living!
Run Your First 5K We’ve heard every
excuse as to why people can’t run … “I’m too fat,
too old, my knees hurt, I have bad feet, it’s too
hot, too cold ...” We want to help you see past those excuses.
Our entry level running class is for those who aren’t currently
on an exercise program. Go from the couch to completing
a 5k (3.1 miles) in 12 weeks. Don’t be surprised when you
find that you lose weight, meet new people, and find yourself
healthier and happier overall. Through weekly emails, a guided
schedule, coached runs, and educational clinics, we’ll teach
you the basics and keep you moving towards the finish line.
Prerequisites: You should be able to walk comfortably for 20
minutes before starting this class. We encourage you to talk
with your doctor before starting this (or any) exercise program.
Most people can only meet 2 of the 3 days per week, and that’s
ok. Instructor: Ashley Kelso
