Although there are standards <strong>for</strong> the tensile and bending testing of materials that inclu<strong>de</strong><br />

specifications of test sample shape and size (e.g., DIN EN ISO 178, E DIN EN ISO 527-2), no<br />

standards exist so far <strong>for</strong> the testing of wax. There<strong>for</strong>e, suitable test specimens <strong>for</strong> wax had to be<br />

<strong>de</strong>veloped based on the available standards and on initial experiments. For the tensile tests,<br />

dumb-bell shaped samples with dimensions of 170 mm x 20 mm x 6 mm proved to be suitable<br />

(Figure 3), and <strong>for</strong> the bending tests, bar-shaped samples of 60 mm length and 10 mm diameter<br />

(see Figure 4).<br />
