know. It is changing the product without consumer consent, and it is insulting on two
levels--one being underestimating the public's level of maturation and another being their
intelligence in that the company is assuming the public will not find out that they've just
been deceived. Personally, when I buy a product, I expect to get what I paid for, not what
the company feels like giving me so that they can make more money by selling to a wider
audience.
A dishonest company,

edits/censors its manga to the
point of fraud. The growth of
CMX could thus only harm
the manga industry as a
whole--by dumbing down
manga in general (so as to
market it to 13 year olds) and
by creating a precedent for
other companies to alter
manga without informing
their customers. Thus anyone
who cares about manga
should not buy from CMX, seeing as any financial support given to the company will
allow it to now only grow, but to purchase the rights to other manga as well--thereby
blocking other, more legitimate companies from distributing manga. Instead you should
purchase manga from more independent publishers who's rendering of manga is truer to
the originals produced in Japan:
GoComi! and Broccoli Books are two examples of ethical Manga publishers.
Money spent on them would be invested back into the company and allow them to
continue their publications, more than CMX would invest their profits back into their
own company. There is little to no censorship from GoComi! or Broccoli.
Buying from CMX is socially irresponsible. Help protect the quality of manga
and punish dishonest business practices by boycotting CMX. � Jacob Guevara
On the following page is a list of CMX manga titles released as of December
2007. As always, we at Animation Liberation recommend you should avoid purchasing
the American release of these titles under the CMX brand. These titles may be perfectly
fine and worth reading and picking up, but just not through CMX. If you can find them in
Japanese or when another more ethical company releases the series if the licenses
change, check them out!
