VISIT TO THE AUSTRALIAN CENTRE OF MOVING IMAGES
LIGHTS! CAMERA! ANIMATION! On Tuesday the 1 st of May, 2012, twenty Wadhurst boys set off to
discover a new world, the world of animation. We departed school at 9:30am catching public transport up
St Kilda Rd to Federation Square. As we stepped off the tram, we then were debriefed about our day at
ACMI by the one and only Mr Cawood.
Once we entered ACMI, we were introduced to the ACMI mentors and were told what we were going to be
doing that day. Once our objective was clear we then headed up to the animation labs, which contained
some very comfortable seats. We were shown different types of animations that were made by
extraordinary animators.
Our goal was to make a 3 second animation, which equalled to 99 drawing frames! There were two
different types of animation. There was the animation where you draw random creative lines and patterns
down the digital film-strip or the animation where you draw a character or an object sequence in each
frame. The mentors showed us some interesting and productive ways to use photo shop and enhance our
animations.
