Message
The Holy Father’s Prayer Intentions for AUGUST 2012
General: Prisoners. That prisoners may be treated with justice and
respect for their human dignity.
Mission: Youth Witness to Christ. That young people, called to follow
Christ, may be willing to proclaim and bear witness to the
Gospel to the ends of the earth.
ARCHBISHOP’S MESSAGE
Reverend and dear Fathers, Brothers and
Sisters,
Prayerful greetings to you in the holy name
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1. Graces upon Graces
22nd August 1962 remains fresh in the memory
of many of us. It marks the 50th anniversary of the
Episcopal Consecration of His Eminence Simon
Cardinal Lourdusamy, a loving son of the soil of
Pondicherry and an excellent priest of the Archdiocese
of Pondicherry and Cuddalore. On this happy occasion
we offer our hearty felicitations to His Eminence and
wish him Ad Multos Annos.
His Eminence Simon Cardinal Lourdusamy was born on 05-
02-1924 at Kallery of our Archdiocese, of Mr. Simon Duraisamy
and Mrs. Annamarie alias Matharasi. His parents brought him up in
deep faith and great piety; He was helped to cultivate a tender and
filial devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. From his parents he learnt
the values of prayer, hard work and high level discipline, loving care
and concern for others, to be gentle, polite and respectful.
In his praying heart he heard the voice of the Lord, calling him
to follow the Lord more closely. The Lord showered upon His Eminence
graces upon graces, blessings upon blessings: the gift and the grace
of his priesthood, which received on 21-12-1951 at Tindivanam,
the gift and grace of the fullness of priesthood, which he received

on 22-08-1962 in Pondicherry, the gift, the grace and the dignity of
the Cardinalate, which was conferred on him in Rome on
25-05-1985. By his ardent prayers and dedicated ministries, by his
various services and activities, he has been building up the house of
God - Aedificare Domum Dei - for the past 50 years (1962-2012).
Cardinal D. S. Lourdusamy was consecrated Auxiliary Bishop
of Bangalore just two months before the opening of the Second
Vatican Council on 11-10-1962. He was privileged to take part in the
council. He took an active part in the Council deliberations and his
thought – provoking interventions impressed the participants. As
the Archbishop of Bangalore he constituted 16 Commissions to
implement the teachings of the Vatican II and to make the Archdiocese
of Bangalore a vibrant church. He prepared “Vatican-II Digest” in
English, Tamil and Kannada so that the clergy, religious and the
laity could get the knowledge of the Vatican II documents. He started
National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical centre (NBCLC) in
Bangaore to animate Liturgical and Catechetical renewal in India.
Very Rev. Fr. D. S. Amalorpavadoss his younger brother was the first
Director of this centre. His Eminence contributed a lot for the growth
of St. John’s Medical College Hospital. He successfully organized
the All India Seminar on the church in India Today in 1969.
In 1971 Archbishop D. S. Lourdusamy was appointed as the
Joint Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of
Peoples. In the long history of 350 years of the Congregation (founded
in 1622), His Eminence was the first Asian to occupy this top-ranking
post, involving great responsibilities for the life and mission of the
church. As the Secretary of this Congregation, as the President of
the Pontifical Mission Aid Societies, he travelled to many mission
countries in order to have personal contacts with the Prelates, the
clergy, the religious and the laity. He encouraged missionary activities
in those countries.
25 th May 1985, remains the day of days in the life of Archbishop
D. S. Lourdusamy. It was on that day he was raised to the dignity of
a CARDINAL. He is the 4 th Indian Cardinal and the First one from
Tamilnadu and Pondicherry. By receiving the Red Hat he became a
prince of the church and a very close collaborator of the Pope. He is

called to be ready and willing even to shed his blood for the sake of
Christ and his gospel. As a priest he belonged to the Archdiocese of
Pondicherry and Cuddalore; as an Archbishop he belonged to the
Archdiocese of Bangalore; as a Cardinal he belongs to the Universal
Church.
Pope John Paul II appointed Cardinal Lourdusamy on 30-10-
1985 the Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Church.
This appointment is very important and highly significant. The Second
Vatican Council intended to respect and to preserve the ancient
traditions, the great patrimony and the special character of the
Eastern Churches. Cardinal Lourdusamy showed great interest and
made concrete provisions for the growth of the Eastern Churches.
As far as India is concerned, he was instrumental for the publication
of the historical Papal Letter of 28 th May 1987, which aimed at
solving the Inter-Ritual Problem in India.
I consider it as a great blessing that I, as a seminarian of St.
Agnes’ doing Xth Std., could take part in the Sacred Ceremony of the
Episcopal Consecration on 22-08-1962 and get the first blessing of
the newly consecrated Bishop D. S. Lourdusamy. As a seminarian at
St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore (1965-72), I had the joy of
receiving tonsure and the four Minor Orders of Lector, Porter, Acolyte
and Exorcist (all Suppressed in 1972) from the hands of the
Archbishop D. S. Lourdusamy. As a student at the Pontifical Urban
University, Rome (1976-81), I had a lot of opportunities to meet him
and got his blessings and guidance. On 29 th January 1997 he
consecrated me Bishop of Ootacamund. On 5 th July 2004 he installed
me as the Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore and blessed me
in a special way.
Thus, I have personal knowledge, of His Eminence D. S.
Lourdusamy for the past 50 years. God has blessed him with the
rare combination of the high qualities of the head and the heart. He
is loving and lovable, affectionate and kind, firm and prudent, easily
available and quickly approachable, joyful and peaceful. He considers
every human person precious and worthy of special attention, care
and service. He always maintains cordial relations with everyone.
His simple and unassuming style of life, his noble and gentle manners
are a great inspiration to others.

Message
His ministries and services as a priest, as an Archbishop and as
a Cardinal to the Local Church and to the Universal Church are
marked by a sense of great dedication and deep commitment. He has
a great love for the church and for its mission. He remains most loyal
to the person of the Roman pontiff. His life is marked by hard work
and high level discipline. He is known for his regularity and
punctuality. He has clear vision for his important mission. He has the
rare gift of quickly assessing persons, analyzing problems and taking
right decisions. He is a “Legion”; he always worked in a team and
promoted team work. He has put order and discipline in all the works
entrusted to him. He is a man of perfection. He tried to do every
work to the maximum perfection. He is a believer in work, in hard
work, in long hours of work.
He is known for his great generosity. He was always open to
help the needy. Many persons and many institutions benefitted a lot
from his generosity. Music is one of God’s best gift to man. Cardinal
Lourdusamy is a great musician. As a priest he was in charge of the
Cathedral choir in Pondicherry and he promoted the congregational
singing. He is a voracious reader, a great speaker and a prolific writer.
God has gifted him with excellent memory. He easily remembers
persons because he keeps them deep in his loving heart. He was fluent
in many foreign languages such as English, Italian, French, German
and Spanish.
He went willingly wherever he was sent. He did excellently well
whatever he was asked to do. In the light of faith he clearly perceived
God’s will and with the strength of prayer he did God’s will to the
maximum perfection. Whatever happened in his life, he always
remained with the same humility of heart and with the same
tranquility of mind.
As His Eminence D. S. Lourdusamy is completeing 50 years of
his Episcopate, with the heart and mind of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
he rejoices in the Lord and thanks the Lord for all His blessings upon
him all these 50 years. We join him in thanking and praising the
Lord. We greatly admire and appreciate the dedicated services of Sr.
Vellie, Sr. Avis and Sr. Vera to his Eminence for the past 39 years. The
life of His Eminence is a great inspiration and shining example to us
all. He has been following Christ more closely as a Christian for 88

years (1924), as priest for 60 years (1951) and as a Bishop for 50
years (1962). He completely dedicated himself to the glory of God
by “building up the house of God” at the local level in Pondicherry
and in Bangalore and at the Universal level in Rome. Once again we
offer our Hearty Felicitations to His Eminence Simon Cardinal
Lourdusamy and wish him AD MULTOS ANNOS.
2. 50 Years Ago
16th August 2012 marks the Golden Jubilee of the de jure
independence of Pondicherry (16-08-1962) from France. The French
came to Pondicherry on 4th February 1673. On 01-11-1954 France
gave de facto independence to Pondicherry. By the treaty of Paris in
1814, Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam and Chandranagore
became French settlements in India. In 1952 Chandranagore became
part of West Bengal. On this happy occasion we offer Hearty
Felicitations to all in the Union Territory of Pondicherry
(Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam).
3. News from CBCI
� Bishop Prakash Mallavarappu of Vijayawada has been
appointed the Archbishop of Vishakapatnam. We offer our
Hearty Felicitations to His Grace and wish him success in
his new office.
� Bishop Gerald Lobo of Shimoga has been appointed on
16-07-2012 as the First Bishop of the New Diocese of
Udupi, bifurcated from Mangalore. We wish him success
in his new office.
Note: As on 31-07-2012 there are 166 Dioceses in India: 129 of
the Latin Rite, 29 of the Syro-Malabar Rite, and 8 of the Syro-
Malankara Rite. There are 30 Archdioceses.
4. Prison Ministry Sunday
This year Sunday, 12th August 2012 is observed as the Prison
Ministry Sunday in India. There are about 3,68,998 prisoners in 1394
prisons in India. Let us keep in mind that our human dignity comes
from God who created us in his own image and likeness (cf. Gen.
1:26). We know that nobody is a born criminal. We are created by the

goodness (God) for Goodness. There are many prisoners who unjustly
suffer in prisons. “I was in prison you came to me” (Mt. 25:36). Let
us take time to visit prisoners and give them courage and comfort.
5. Justice Sunday
Sunday, 19th August 2012 is observed as Justice Sunday. The
theme is “called to witness to justice through our word and work”.
We all know that there are many unjust structures and systems in
our Indian society. The church should become the defender of the
poor and the oppressed.
6. Black Day
August 10th is kept as the Black Day. It was on 10th August
1950 that the para 3 of the Presidential order, which restricted
Scheduled Caste Status only to the Hindus, was signed. But SC
status was extended in 1956 to Hindus converted to Sikhism and in
1990 to Hindus converted to Buddhism. The Dalit Christians and
the Dalit Muslims are discriminated on the ground of religion. It is
a great injustice.
7. Diocesan Pastoral Council
The Archdiocese Pastoral Council has been reconstituted. The
first meeting of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council will take place on
Saturday, 25th August 2012, at the Pastoral Centre, Uppalam. All
the members are kindly requested to take note of it and take part in
the meeting.
8. Annual Retreat
The retreat for our diocesan clergy (Second Batch) will take
place at the Archbishop’s House from Monday 24th to Friday 28th September 2012. The diocesan priests belonging to the Second batch
of retreat list (Refer November News Letter-2011) are kindly
requested to participate in this retreat. If some for valid reasons are
not able to participate in this retreat, they should get my written
permission for their absence and inform Rev. Fr. Procurator. Making
annual retreat is a serious obligation of the clergy (Can. 276/4).
Hence they are to make their own arrangements for their annual
retreat.

This is the direct and definite will of God revealed to us through
Jesus Christ in the Mahamantra: “Thy will be done on earth as in
heaven” and the eternal plan of God for all. “Thy Kingdom Come”
being realized over the centuries gradually by the humanity. The
celebration of the Independence Day and the Feast of the Assumption
of Our Blessed Mother be meaningful to all of us to journey towards
total freedom.
Parishes – Vicariates – Diocese
These are the basic structures for every Local Church. The Year
of Faith is a God given opportunity to revive, revitalize, renew and
re-launch our mission today particularly in our Archdiocese.
Facilitating Action Plan
a. Parish: We have with God’s grace 101 parishes and three Mission
Stations in 2012.

Informations
i. The Parish Priest along with his team could get the details of
the first survey draft from the diocese and make it complete and be
ready to plan for the parish.
ii. The Parish Priests, the Clergy, the Religious and the enlightened
Lay People (Women-Men) could study the survey and bring out a
modest plan of action to realize the immediate, proximate, remote,
ultimate goal of life.
b. Vicariate: Altogether we have Ten Vicariates in Puducherry Union
Territory, Cuddalore and Villupuram Districts of Tamil Nadu.
i. The Parish Priest along with a religious, one woman and one
man of the parish could come to the vicariate with their parish plan
to be refined and approved by the vicariate and the diocese.
ii. Under the guidance of the Vicar Forane all the parishes
belonging to a particular vicariate can come together with their parish
plans, study them together and approve them for implementation.
iii. The vicariate going through the plans of the parishes, as a
Vicariate Pastoral Team, each vicariate can draw a vicariate plan of
co-ordination, monitoring and facilitation so that the plans get realized
in the different parishes.
c. Archdiocese
i. The Archdiocesan Pastoral Council could go through the parish
plans, the vicariate plans and approve officially with the consent of
the Archbishop for proper implementation, follow-up, animation and
monitoring.
ii. The Archdiocesan Pastoral Council could gather at least thrice
in a year for approval, monitoring and evaluation of the pastoral and
mission plans of the Archdiocese.
In this process there is the participation of the Clergy, the
Religious and the Laity for a meaningful life, witness and service. If
this is the will and plan of God Nobody needs to delay but commit
themselves in faith and continue in the path towards the rule of God.

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE IS DIVINE
NOT HUMAN PLAN
I. Keep your House in Order

Once you are married the next thing you will need to do is to
make sure you always keep your house in order. If you do not, and
you end up having problems with your spouse or any of your children,
it could seriously distract and weaken you as you try to work for
God in the calling that He has set up for your life. Successful people
state that what had helped them to reach the success they have
obtained is having a good, strong, loyal spouse who stood by their
side the entire time they were climbing their wall of success. Can
you imagine trying to climb your own personal mountain in the Lord
with all that it will entail, and at the same time, trying to handle all
of the problems and complications that will occur if you are having
problems at home with your spouse or any of your children?
1. “…for if a man does not know how to rule his own house,
how will he take care of the church of God?” (1 Timothy
3:5)
2. “Likewise you husbands, dwell with them with
understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker
vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life,

(1 Peter 3:7)
The first verse is flat out challenging all of us, especially men.
If a man cannot keep some sense of order in his own household, then
how is God going to trust him with any more tasks or duties, much
less ever want to promote him any further up his ladder of success.
With marriage and family being a real big thing with the Lord, He
will expect all of us to do everything we can to keep our marriages
and families running smoothly under His direction. I believe if a
man cannot keep his own house in order, then God may not want to
promote him any further in his divine calling. Many people never
reach and fulfill their divine destiny for the Lord because they did
not do well with the spouse and children that were earlier given to
them. This is why each person has to put their marriage and family
at the top of their priority, so they never start to take any of them for
granted while they are working for the Lord in their divine callings.
The last verse goes as far as to tell us that our prayers to God
will be hindered if we do not treat our spouses with godly love and
respect. Start verbally abusing and mistreating your spouse, and you
could end up with your prayer life getting completely shut down
with the Lord. And once your prayer life with the Lord starts to shut
down, everything else will start to fall apart as well, including your
own actual calling in the Lord. You could thus end up losing both
your marriage and you divine destiny for the Lord, all because you
could not stay on top of your marriage with how you had treated
your spouse and children.
II. God Hates Divorce
As Jesus has already told us in Matthew 19:6, let no man try
and separate what God has put together in a marriage union. The
following first verse tells us that God the Father actually hates divorce,
the rest of the verses will then go on and tell us that adultery is the
only biblical grounds for divorce. Following are some of the main
verses from the Bible so you can see what God’s opinion is on divorce.
1. “For the Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for
it covers one’s garments with violence …”(Malachi 2:16)

2. “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits
adultery; and whoever married her who is divorced from
her husband commits adultery.”(Luke 16:18)
3. “Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: a
wife is not to depart from her husband. But even if she
does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to
her husband. And a husband is not divorce his wife.
But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife
who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not
divorce her. And a woman who has a husband, who does not believe,
if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the
unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving
wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be
unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever departs, let his
depart; a brother or sister is not under bondage in such cases. But
God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether
you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether
you will save your wife?” (1 Corinthians 7:10-16)
4. “A wife is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if
her husband dies, she is at liberty to be married to whom
she wishes, only in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 7:39)
5. “Therefore what God has joined together, let not man
separate”… So He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife
and married another commits adultery against her. And if
a woman divorces her husband and married another, she
commits adultery.” (Mark 10:9-12)
6. “Furthermore it has been said, “Whoever divorces his wife,
let him give her a certificate of divorce,” “But I say to you
that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual
immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever
marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.”
(Matthew 5:31-32)
Again, when God unites two people in holy matrimony, he will
expect each partner to do the best they can to keep this marriage fully
intact until the death of one of the spouses. This is why when you

enter into a marriage covenant with your spouse and the Lord, that
you take this commitment very, very seriously, and that you do
everything you can to keep it fully intact for the rest of your earthly
life.
III. Do not Commit Adultery
If there is one sin that can bring down a marriage very quickly
and totally destroy it, it has to be the sin of adultery. Once you enter
into a true marriage covenant with your spouse, do not ever tempt
the fate of your marriage and your own personal relationship with
the Lord by committing this sin. As you will see in the specific
wording in these verses, this sin has absolutely deadly consequences
to it if you do not pull out of it within a reasonable time. Here are 8
very serious verses on adultery.
1. And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the Lord
Your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out
of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods
before Me… You shall not commit adultery…”(Exodus
20:1-14)
2. “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled;
but the fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”
(Hebrews 13:4)
3. “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit
the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither
fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,
nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards,
nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of
God” (1 Corinthians 6:9)
4. “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are:
adultery, fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry,
sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath,
selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders,
drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you
beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those
who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of
God.” (Galatians 5:19)

5. “For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light,
reproofs of instruction are the way of life, to keep you
from the evil woman, from the flattering tongue of a
seductress, do not lust after her beauty in your heart, not
let her allure you with her eyelids. For by means of a
harlot a man is reduced to a crust of bread; and an
adulterous will prey upon his precious life. Can a man
take fire to his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Can
one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared? So is he
who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her
shall not be innocent…Whoever commits adultery with a
woman lacks understanding; he who does so destroys his
own soul.” (Proverbs 6:23,32)
6. “The mouth of an immoral woman is a deep pit; he who is
abhorred of the Lord will fall there.” (Proverbs 22:14)
7. “My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe
My ways. For a harlot is a deep pit, and a seductress is a
narrow well. She also lies in wait as for a victim, and
increases the unfaithful among men.” (Proverbs 23:26)
8. “Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray
into her paths; for she has cast down many wounded, and
all who were slain by her were strong men. Her house is
the way to hell, descending to the chambers of death.”
(Proverbs 7:25)
The very first verse is coming from the 10 commandments. God
the Father gave 10 specific commandments in His own handwriting
that He wants all of us to abide by in this life, and then you know
this is something we should all take very, very seriously.
IV. God still has to be Number One in Your Life
God always has to be number one in your life - even ahead of
your own family members. God has to be first and foremost in your
life. If you would like to see all of the main verses from the Bible in
that we are to live this life in a full and complete surrender with the
Lord, God even has to be placed ahead of our own personal

relationships with the members of our own family. He who loves
father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who
loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he
who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. He
who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will
find it.” (Matthew 10:37). (Renewal Voice April-2012, Vol.17, Issue

� Evangelizing through Cell Phone: India has 919 million
mobile phones, almost three times more than all the cell
phones in the United States. Around 30 families went to
the prayer conference in Bareilly and listened to a speaker
preach over five days on the theme of “Healing and
Forgiveness.”

1. August 10, 2012, Black Day observance
On Aug. 10, 1950, the federal government had enacted a special
legislation paving the way for the constitutional discrimination against
Dalit Christians. For 60 years, the government listed Hindu Dalits as
“Scheduled Caste” and made them eligible for free education and quotas
in government jobs and legislatures to improve their social status.
While the scheduled caste privileges were extended to Sikh Dalits in
1956 and Buddhist Dalits in 1990, they have been denied to Muslim
and Christian Dalits.

also available in the Archbishop’s House, Pondicherry. The cost of

This year only 200 applications are allotted to our Archdiocese.
The Parish Priests are requested to identify really deserving
beneficiaries for the scholarship. Only with the recommendation
letter of the parish priest, the beneficiaries can get the application
forms.

The following courses in Government recognized institutions
are eligible for the scholarship.

A Xerox of Community certificate must be affixed with the
application stating that the beneficiary is a Catholic Dalit.

The filled application forms should be sent on or before 10th of
October 2012 to Archdiocesan secretary.

� Every year 150 applications are issued. About 40 to 50
applications are not sent back. It is a deprivation of
scholarship to 50 other deserving students. Hence fathers
are earnestly requested to give a follow up that the
applications are filled in and are sent back to the address
which is on the envelope.
� The students are asked to give proper address in the
application where they or their parents can be intimated
of the distribution of the funds.
� The application is issued with addressed envelope. The
applicants are asked to use the same envelope and post it.

Introduction:
It is my privilege and pleasure to give you some news about
Seppakkam Mission. Seppakkam which was one of the sub-stations
of the Shrine of Our Lady of Periyanayagi, Konankuppam is now
made a centre of the Mission.
1. Mission Territory:
The mission of Our Lady of Loretto, Seppakkam is located
in the Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddaloe. It is in the state of

Tamil Nadu and in the district of Cuddaloe on the Prime National
Highway (from Chennai to Tichy) near to Veppur a small town.
Seppakkam has 7 villages (around the 17 km radius) viz; 1.
Kattumailur, 2. Koothakudy, 3. Aathiyur, 4. Eranji, 5. Asanur, 6.
Thirupear and 7. Kurupeedapuram. These villages and other
surrounding villages come under this mission.
2. Execution of the Mission:
The Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore Most Rev.
Dr. A. Anandarayar had a foresight to starting a mission centre in
these areas to promote social and religious values of the people. His
vision is our Mission. During the meetings for priests’ council and
priests’ senate, Our Archbishop used to point out repeatedly these
areas urgent need to start a mission for our new evangelization
following the footsteps of the Holy Father.
In this connection, Our Archbishop decided to purchase a land
for this special purpose. So we bought 2.73 acres of land worth Rs.
45 Lakh on 20-03-2009 (including purchase of land and registration).
As we mentioned earlier at Seppakkam, this land bought for a special
purpose to start a Mission Centre, was Our Archbishop’s long awaited
plan to work for the poor and downtrodden both for their spiritual
and temporal needs.
Mr. Richard Loretto, the Director of Our Lady of Loretto
Foundation, USA, had the generosity to hear our valuable petition
and proposal to start and promote the special devotion to Our Lady
of Loretto in the Archdiocese of Pondicheery and Cuddalore, next to
Ariyankuppam in Pondicherry and Melvazhy which were the places
to create the devotion and even in the region of Tamil Nadu which
has 17 Dioceses and if possible this Seppakkam would be even made
as the Regional Centre for the spreading of the devotion of Our Lay
of Loretto.
3. Inauguration and Functioning of the Mission Centre:
First, we started to build a Rectory (Mission House for Priests’
stay) on 12

th March 2012 by Rev. Fr. C. Joseph Arumaiselvam and
on 21st June 2012, Our Archbishop blessed and opened this mission
house in the evening and said Concelebrated Mass along with our
Leroto Mission
diocesan priests and especially from Kallakurichy Vicariate. Before
the celebration of the Mass, Our Archbishop read out the Decree on
Erection of the Mission of Our Lady of Loretto at Seppakkam and
appointed me, Rev. Fr. L. Vincent as the First Director of this important
Mission.
May I take this opportunity to thank Our Archbishop for having

4. The Main Purpose and Nature of this Mission:
Our Mission Centre here stands as the place to show our Catholic
presence in the backward areas of our Archdiocese because we don’t
have any sign of our Catholic presence or existence of any Church
or any educational centre starting from Ulundurpet to Thozhudur.
It is now the right for us to come closer to our people and other
religion by proclaiming the good news and spread God’s Kingdom
in these areas.
First and foremost by starting the animation centre, we could
help the poor boys and girls to come up in life with the systematic
orientation programmes and by starting the educational home, we
could educate the poor students who are helpless both socially and
financially and by building a new Church, we could help the poor
and pious people to grow more spiritually and strengthen their faith
and by way of starting an organized women and child welfare
programmes, we will surely continue the Holy Mission of Blessed
Mother Theresa. In this connection, we all can spread the devotion of
Our Lady of Loretto who is the Mother and Guardian of all the
Children of God.
Thus, this Mission of Our Lady of Loretto, Seppakkam is a
milestone not only in the History of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry
and Cuddalore but also in the Mission of Our Lady of Loretto
Foundation, USA.
With the simple assurance of our people’s prayer and wishes.
